Good morning from Northeast Ohio! First up is #13 complete of the Tichy Panel Side Hopper with grain extension. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Green tinged Silver and lettered with the kit supplied decals. The Anderson's acquired these cars from the Wabash and installed the grain extension as the cars would fill up with grain before they weighed out to capacity. The loads were covered with a tarp for the short trip from Maumee to the port of Toledo to unload the grain. Next is a Branchline Berwick 5077CF kit, I added A-line Sill Steps and a Hennessy Door Openig Mechanism to the car to match the prototype. Railroads tried the Hennessy to mitigate the damage done by the fork lifts used to open the doors, but the door opener was fragile also and was easily damaged. Car was painted with Scalecoat II mixture of Big Sky Blue, BN Greeen and white paint along with Silver, then lettered with Herald King Decals. The Middletown purchased 500 of these cars during the IPD era and when it ended the railroad ended up with 500 cars on its rails that were not needed, took them 10 years to finally rid themselves of these cars. Pair of Athearn FP7's with a mail and express train on the Strongsville Club layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Great pics! I like a BL-2 now and again. Also, in lieu of posting on weekly modeling thread, I will put it here. Note: I did not see the usual thread. I hope everything is okay. Currently I am drawing cut lines on walls and developing a new window technique. Just plugging along. Have a great weekend.
Truck traffic pretty heavy exiting the Ewing Oil refinery property, 2 empty catalyst trucks are 3D prints. The old style top loading rack needs to be upgraded to a bottom loading system, for safety. UMMM, project coming on ? ?
In the 1990s, the UTAH RAILWAY was a coal hauling railroad. When it was formed in 1903, it hauled coal from Carbon Country, Utah to an interchange with Union Pacific at Provo. They had just retired their Alchos, RSD4s, 5s and 11s, and leased some rebuilt SD40s from Boise Locomotive. They were painted in a stunning red and grey livery, based on an HO SD45 model. Here are some of my UTAH RAILWAY SD40s , an SW7 and a wide vision caboose. I painted and decaled these Rail Power Product SD40s, the Athearn SW7 and the caboose. 9009, 9004, 9006 and 9007 are all Athearn RTR units.
I have 4 great Nephews and a great Niece in SW Kansas. I wanted them to have a model RR to operated while they were young. Dade the smallest boy was practically vibrating in anticipation, he like dem trains. I made it to be fold up type outfit that would take up very little room when folded away, with plenty of shelving there to store the cars, locomotives and building as needed. This is the view from the side that was to be attached to the wall. The other side with the legs that support when folded down for operations. Here is is installed and we are finishing some scenery to the outfit. The crew. Next post, the loco and cars for the outfit.
The porototype I caught in Satanta KS, this old GP30 is ex-DRGW. The loco an old Athrearn and Life-like shell. I painted and made up some decals to match. Also an Athearn WV caboose. I then used some Accurail cars, painted made decals for each one of the kids to have their own Willis Holley RY grain car. Now here it is in service Dade in the center is keeping an eye on the operation. I was a very enjoyable project. I hope they get a kick out of it.
Building a model railroad is always enjoyable, and so much more when you're doing it for the young ones. In my personal experience as a kid, oh they will! There's nothing like seeing their eyes brighten.
Great work! A friend of mine has purchased the CVR 3020, which was damaged and rebuilt to CVR 20. He's going to repaint it into the D&RGW 3020. I hope those kids enjoy the layout.
That's some really great woodworking there Tom, and a splendid project the five kids will enjoy and remember always.
