One of my earliest memories is of my mom screaming and running out the back door to pull the cloths off the line when she heard a C&NW steamer approaching the crossing at the end of the block in our home town in Wisconsin. Scared the crap out of me and got me crying hysterically as I had no idea what was going on. She soon had her basket of laundry and came back in to find me in that distraught state. She figured out what had happened and calmed me down. Years later she said that she felt real bad about it and it took some time plus a few cookies to pacify me, but don't remember that.

Nothing beats that smoky fresh scent! For an even more intense aroma, try the Full Steam Ahead scent! You'll smell just like a steam locomotive engineer!

    Available at all fine stores.

Wheat stubble? That ballast looks like it could stand a good cleaning!

I hardly see enough ballast to properly support two inches of rail.

No doubt that's why they're using such a light locomotive. Where is the Greeley, Colorado branch now?

A very nice piece of photography.

It's also kind of sad. It's 1959, and you know none of them were ever steamed up again.

A C&S joint CB&Q/Rio Grande steam excursion and the El Cap behind F units in '70, a couple of years after the FP45s were delivered. Could that be the last time the Super and El Cap ran independently during the peak season?

It is the combined train. Unusual that it had F-Units on the point though.
