A few KCS units awaiting their next assignments. This is at the KCS Artesia MS yard back in July 2022. It's not too far off the beaten path but it is for sure on of those places that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the railroad.
Decades ago.... A pair of SP GP9R units, with a local. is returning to Brooklyn Yard (Portland), Oregon. If my memory is correct, it was drizzly, foggy morning:
March 1978 and times they are a changin' in Chicago commuter territory at Barrington, IL. F40PH #119 is just six months old and is named Village of Cary.
Eastbound manifest freight rumbles past the ND State Fairgrounds, near BNSF KO Sub milepost 201 in midmorning light. Eastbound Ross Local drifts back into Minot at CP203.0.
Let's go back in time again. Here it is in July 1934, replacing a bridge somewhere West of El Paso. I don't see any or very few hard hats but if it was July it could have been 100* +. Ouch ! Photos from Gordon Motts. Looks like great fun ! !
That's something to do when there's no wind! One gust and that puppy's a-swingin'! I can imagine the guy standing on the left-hand bridge pier in the first photo, after the section is in place, calling out to his colleagues, "Uh... guys? A little help? A ladder? Guys?" He's going to wish someone invented the cell phone earlier...
Do you have more pics from this service facility - -im modeling one and need references -- my digital layout will have both a modern facility and a old school steam facility -- any ref pics from anyone are very welcome
Don't forget Google Maps. You can get a lot of information about the facility there. https://www.google.com/maps/place/3...dfed75117bd675!8m2!3d31.0957222!4d-97.3485278
If it’s the same one I’ve been too, there is a playground not too far away. I’d watch the trains while my kids played. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tim, as Russell said your best bet is to use his link to google maps and explore the shops. It is difficult to get pictures because it is located in the center of a wye junction with only BNSF authorized entrance. On Google maps you can see the shops, sanding towers, offices and to the west are the fuel tanks and two track refueling rack. Here are two more pictures taken from the Temple Station and Museum.
Had me a happy accident today after waking up to fresh snow! Saw the signal for the main was a green 'highball' and headlights were lit down at the depot! So, parked the pickup and got up behind the WhistleStop gas station and ended up freezing my hand a bit as I video'd away! Brr! But worth it as this coal train ended up fronting for a grain empty as the second half surprise!!
Here is eastbound NS 4015 as it passes the Sebring station (home of the Sebring Model Railroad Club) pulling an intermodal unit train toward Pittsburgh on Sunday, October 23rd. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
