I thank those of you who have followed along with my other 2 threads but it is time to " get-r-done " so new thread is called for. Tomorrow, 10/27/22, I shall airbrush the boiler black and set aside to dry for several days. While drying, I will get the tender/chassis completed as well as attach both pony and trailing truck to power/boiler chassis along with motor and worm. I think I may be able to squeeze a very small LokPilot under the boiler shell ( ? ? ? ). Here she is today: It has been a long time, so between more n scale tank truck builds and AC-9 bash, I shall attempt to complete this project. Be safe, be well!
Looks great!! The... ZIMO is a touch smaller if that helps (more HERE ). Zimo is about $10 more expensive but if it makes thing easier might not be a bad option. SBS on here sells them ( HERE ) but looks like they are out of stock at the present. Looks like they have the 5 Micro in stock ( HERE ). I bought 2 of the Zimo's to have in stock but don't need them now. I could send you one and let you replace it when they come into stock again if that would help. Sumner
Thanks guys for the comments. Hemi - the castings came from Jason Smith, "superturbine", Tomball Locomotive Works. Many folks are sad he left the model railroad field for hi power motorcycles. Sumner - Thank you very much for the offer, very considerate of you. However I have ordered the ESU LP from Bryan. BTW, I too share your thoughts about "the other" train site. Be well ! PS: weather is supposed to be 74* with low humidity today, sounds about perfect for air brushing !
I am working on it : Next up to paint some detail such as the smoke box in graphite and smoke box door in white ( ? ? ). Then decals and dull coat. Damn, I just realized this casting has no # boards. Start surfing dude.
Thanks ! you have all seen the following image: well I incorrectly decaled with large SP lettering, not good, so here it is now A little touch up air brush work and the correct small letters "Southern Pacific Lines" attached. Here is what I am aiming for, as close as I can get: I have another image of 702 with a doghouse tender. Oh well, all I can do is try. Number 6 was the Eastbound Argonaut. Will need fairly medium weathering and aging.
The size lettering all depends on the era. I believe the dog houses came along after the large "SOUTHERN PACIFIC" lettering was put on the tenders. So if you are going with the small lettering, you don't need the dog house.
Also, the paint scheme on the smoke box seems to have changed with the lettering. It appears to have a graphite smoke box cover in the earlier era and the bright silver/aluminum in the later.
Thanks Russell, I would have been OK as I had it. Oh well, I have more. Glad you made the comment about the smokebox door/cover. I will go with the silver. The idea behind this was for better visibility at crossings, right ?
Carl, You are correct sir, "visibility". Cab Aheads, as you know, received silver as well on the cab front. Russell's photos are great "guides"....
Thanks to all following along with me. I said in my final posting in my Love's truck thread that I would now go back to my GS-1 project. So, here goes. Fresh out of the paint track. When dry, I will mask off the front smokebox door and give it the silver treatment as seen on a couple of Russell's images. I have some touch up to do with this. I was not smart enough to paint, mask and paint before I added any details. They are tough to mask around them. At any rate here she is in all her glory(?) : A lot to be done yet, need to make # boards, paint bell a brass color, try to find some n scale loco marker lights, add decals and on, & on, & on. . . . . . . . I am still leaning towards an ESU Lokpilot nano because of its small size. BTW, I have a MT heavy weight consist of 5 cars so I will # this babe as # 6, the Eastbound Argonaut. I think I may even have the Argonaut drum head. Let the fun continue. Be well ! ? ? ?
I have different sets of numberboards that I can change out depending on which way I am going. #5, #6 and the engine number for an extra. I even have a set of 1-6 for the first section of the #6 that I use with some green flags that I plug in.
Some updates. i am making # boards and will soon dull coat this beast, weather her and then mount to chassis: Thanks for tagging along ! Be well !
You just can't park your vehicle anywhere but someone steals the wheels off it! Hope you get 'em back, that's a very nice ride!
Hey Big Jake, I got some of the wheels back ! ! I am making some progress, slow is me ! : Y'all ( a Texas term ) be well, Carl
