Welcome back everyone, I hope you had a good and prosperous weekend. Let's see how we all did.

Saturday: Was as predicted. I woke up at 5:27am without the benefit of an alarm clock, got cleaned up and dressed and went to the big hardware box store. The thing I like about getting there a little after 6:00am is that you practically have the store to yourself. I picked up the lumbar I needed as well as other essentials then came come to make stove top coffee, corned beef hash and eggs. I then set out on the foundation project. I knew what I needed to do; just didn't know how exactly I was to do it. The goal of course is to lay down each module to a completely flat and level surface. I experimented throughout the day on scrap wood and by evening had some ideas. We then went to a family commitment and called it a day.

Sunday: After getting up early or sleeping in, still not sure, I took it easy. I took Ang for a nice ride in the Mustang, getting winter prep items for the car and motorcycle and gas. Once home, I remembered I had purchased wooden shims and got to work. Without going into a lot of detail, the 1X2 frame I built, sets on the metal shelving brackets. Runners or stringers are set above each bracket and are held on to the brackets with screws. Adding the shims allowed me to adjust the 1x2 to achieve a level surface which could be locked in with the screws. By a few hours later, I had all three modules on the foundation and nice and level. I celebrated my little victory by taking Ang out for dinner and calling it an evening. And like that the weekend was over.

So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll gather again on Friday the 11th, Veterans Day and start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay healthy and safe and as always...

    High Greens!

Good morning and happy Monday. Weekend went as I thought:
    • Saturday, made up several beams for the bridge project, helped the Mrs w/ some things, then late afternoon went out to the stadium for football. Boom, gone, day over.
    • Sunday went to the Neuse River Valley train show. Brought some goodies, got a great looking C&O GP9, Proto2000 Life Like. Checked it out at the show test table. Of course the Life Like main gears were cracked. What else is new. Got a nice discount on it, came home, put in A-Line replacement gears, and voila. Runs like new. Also went by my favorite module club, the Sipping and Switching Society of North Carolina:

Not much. These mindless, useless time changes always mess me up. Packed away some of the projects on my work bench. Just too many had gathered and had simply become annoying. Followed a conversation on line about a forthcoming little teakettle. Can't decide if I will grab one, or not. As pictured, it is of an era a wee bit too early for my theme. Stopped by the hardware store and picked up some filter material for my paint booth. Looked gain, but still can't find some missing items..... Suddenly the weekend had passed me by.... :(

We started raking some leaves. I got one corner done before my back started. My daughter helped and bagged a couple of bags. I pulled the filter out of the fishpond and sunk the water lilies. It is now ready for the netting to be place over it. Inside we began the slow process of taking down the Halloween decorations. I still have a couple of bins to bring up from the basement. I threw a couple of loads of wash in the machines.

I finally finished a MKT Roundhouse 50 FT wood express reefer kit I have been working on. The last thing I had to do was replace the trucks. This was an older kit that I got for a few bucks on that auction site and the trucks that came with it snapped in half when I tried to replace the plastic wheels. Took me awhile to find my stash of extra Roundhouse express trucks. I ran some trains. I unboxed and ran my new Rapido Amtrak “First Day” E8. It is a very some runner. It handled seven Walters Mainline Budd Amtrak Phase 1 cars I got new over the last few months. I am hoping to record a video in the next couple of days.

This past weekend was the intermountain train expo. Utah Free-moN had a set up and now northern Utah knows we exist. Lots of questions and a few new prospects want to join us. Next set up is in Kanab UT.

Sunday I was able to finish the wiring on the new module set and the switch rods are in place. The module set is operational. Now to do the scenery.

After the show I realized we need a couple things. Took a design I had for an HOn3 module set and had it converted to N scale with a couple changes. Here is the plan. First pic is the HOn3 plan (which will be built) and the second is the N scale Free-moN version

    Good morning all,

Had a good full weekend here. On Friday after doing some raking up in the back yard, I finished up a little area along the front edge of Carlin using a section of guard rail from a Kato kit and some Microscale highway reflector decals to make a dead end road barrier. Also put up a new post on my blog about 3D printed wheel stops. https://palisadecanyonrr.blogspot.com/2022/11/3d-printed-wheel-stops.html

On Saturday morning I did some house cleaning then I worked again for a bit on more parts for the upper helix. Then in the afternoon took part in our city wide emergency drill.

On Sunday I worked a bit on the railroad rooming house kit then in the afternoon spent some time at the South Bay Historical Railroad Society's open house. I went to shop and was hoping to find the rest of the Atlas flex track and cork road bed I need to finish the helix but was told they had some but it sold out on Saturday. So I guess a trip to the LHS will be needed this week. There were lots of deals and I did pick up a few other things.

Here's a shot of the sales area

And here's a shot of the N Scale layout in the layout room. The HO layout is over to the left. I will be posting some photos from the layouts in next Friday's Weekend Photo Fun thread.

Well, "That didn't go as planned" describes much of my weekend.

Monday and Tuesday I had a wicked head cold that laid me out in bed or in my recliner for most of both days. Wednesday I was back at work but now WAY behind with only two days to get everything done (since the office is closed on Friday and is my day off). Worse, since I felt like crap, no homework got done in the evenings until Friday. That meant that I had several chapters to read, in each of three books, plus some internet library reading. I didn't add it up, but probably something over 100 pages.

So, Friday, I did homework and a very few household chores.

Saturday was a drop-dead gorgeous day in the 70's, and quite unusual for November in Ohio. There were a great many leaves that needed raking, and other outside chores that needed done but... I did homework. All day and all evening.

Sunday, was church, followed by the monthly meeting at the Sebring Model Railroad Club, with extra business since our annual Open House fundraiser begins on Saturday. As treasurer, I submitted my financial report and collected dues from a few folks. Tuesday (and Friday) the club will have some final clean up and prep but I will have church meetings Tuesday evening. In any case, as soon as I was done at the club, I headed home and joined our Liberia mission board meeting via Zoom which was already in progress. By something after five o'clock, and over two hours of going in circles, I quit the meeting and started dinner with fresh cut french fries (from home grown potatoes), spring rolls, and Chinese pork and leek dumplings in the deep fryer. After dinner... homework. This time it was the writing part to prove that I had done the reading part. Not hard, just time consuming. Finally finished my homework around 10:00 pm, watched television for a while, and went to bed.[IMG]

Friday, did some decaling before going to bowling where I at least bowled my average for the night and the team won all seven points.

Saturday went down to Columbus and bowled 6 games in the State Seniors Tournament but I did not bowl well until the last two games where I changed my line to one I have not used in 25 years. After I got home watched a BBC mystery and then did some decaling.

Sunday did some household chores along with painting a couple of boxcars. Finished decaling all the cars for this week and continued work on the Tangent 86’ Hi-Cube boxcar kit and managed to finish all the underside details and some of the end detail.

Leveling shims sounds very innovative. SD-7's powering along! (y) If ya' want gears done right...ya' gotta' do it yourself. The case of the "speeding weekend". Usually takes me six weeks to get over the time "distortion". Is the laundry winning? Trucks snapped in half! Too "Halloween"! Free-Mo rocks! Cool diagram. 3-D printed wheel stops look sharp. (y) Cool pics too. 10:00 P.M. homework done! Boy, I'm glad that's over! ;) Folks, let's try to keep the laundry and household chores to a minimum. Takes away from model railroading time. :cautious: As of now, the two houses only need support pilings. These are supposed to be stones. :sneaky: I want to make a yard with fence for each house. We will see how this goes. Have a fine Fall week. :D

Friday: Cleaned up my workspace. Spilled half a cup of coffee all over the bench/wall/floor/toolbox. Cleaned up my workspace again.

Saturday: Glued together the office part of my Trackside Transfer building. Spilled thin CA glue onto one of the windows. Cleaned up dried glue.

Sunday: Collected prototype weathering reference photos for the SP boxcars in my work queue. Did not spill anything.

Spent quite a bit of time this weekend updating the map of the Digital San Luis and Rio Grande, and also got quite a bit of track laid -- did the area up to Where the Fir Picnic Ground is, but in my layout that area is a branch on an upper level, so I got the helix done and track roughed in

I also spent a lot of time sleeping (Im still fighting off this respiratory "THING" thats going around in this area), and watching football and Nascar

Planning to lay more track this week, and eventually, I'll be able to start running trains -- LOL

Glad I'm not the only one that does this. You know though, if you spill it just right you may be able to get some cars weathered! :D

So I laid another piece of flex track in the inner 9 3/4" radius loop. Anyone see anything wrong with the second picture?

    IMG_2504.jpg IMG_2505.jpg

Me thinks I put a half piece of 11" radius track there instead of 9 3/4" radius. I have to take it up and look, and also see if I have a half piece of 9 3/4" radius. It's those assorted track piece things from Atlas in N Scale? For some strange reason it works, but looks really bad :) I'll fix it. This is way easier then I thought it was going to be. For some reason I was stressed out about trying this and thought I had to buy special cutters, and figure out a tool to bend the track etc... Nope, just hooked it up to one end, nail it down with track nails, bend it by hand while putting in track nails to hold it, put in the wrong piece of short track, and done! Maybe scenery will be easier too, NOT!

Oh and don't tell anyone, but it was actually done at 3:00 am on Monday morning. It's our secret :)

Besides missing ties. The short curve section isn't align very well.

That's because it was an 11" radius piece and not a 9 3/4" as it should have been. It has since been replaced and 2 small pieces of straight about 2-3" long were also replaced. Went from 16 or so, joiners to 6 and it makes a world of difference. Only thing now is to adjust the 9 3/4" full sectional piece I added and adjust the flex track so there is no Kissing of the outer train and the inner train :) Man this is so much better then 6 pieces of 9 3/4 " sectional pieces and the 2 tiny straight sections. Much better, me happy, now to stop the 2 log trains from kissing ( rubbing against each other ), when they go around the curve.

After this install 2 more pieces of 30" flex track on the other end!

Didn’t do much of anything on Saturday. Watched my oldest’s volleyball game and puttered about doing little chores.

Sunday I finished my last two Concor autoracks in a WC scheme.

I also picked up a project from a few months ago. Going to take some Atlas Dash 8s and patch a few for WC and repaint a few for WC. Progress below.
