You can always disassemble the airbrush, take out the o rings and soak in alcohol or airbrush restorer (createx makes one of those I think). It's gonna be work to get it clean, but it will be possible to clean it, it's not lost.
Straight white vinegar may do the trick also, after disassembly and o-rings out. Hmmm, I guess you have gotten into a 'pickle.'
the only alcohol I have in the house is some Dalwhinnie 15yr and it cost more than the airbrush so no hahaha Joking, of course, but have read not to use anything under medical grade/99% in your airbrush and I would have to get that online - I've already looked all over town, best I can get is like 70% - so may try the white vinegar route for starters. I have a couple of 1 sen coins to clean up, too, so maybe two birds? Again, joking - dissolving copper tarnish at the same time would probably clog it even worse! I think the saving grace may be what's in there. The primer usually washes up really easily, even when dried, so am thinking reconstituting it would cause it to release pretty easily. ...at least that's what I keep telling myself We'll find out here in about 3hrs, I guess.
Get yourself a small ultrasound bath unit. Find a small glass jar that has a tight fitting lid. Put water in the ultra sound bath. Take your chemicals and put them in the jar with the lid on tight. Put the jar in the ultrasound bath with the parts in the jar. Sit back and watch the jar vibrate in the bath. Easy clean-up and just dump the water out of the bath and dry and put away. I just cleaned a loco mechanism motor and all using a dilute solution of Simple Green in a jar. Then did the same with plain water water in the jar to rinse the cleaning solution. I used some compressed air to blow out excess moisture and then let it dry before re-lubing. So when using a flammable like alcohol this is the safe way to do it. I have had my little ultrasound unit now about 20 years.
Yep ,it's pretty much dry by now . What I would do is take it apart and soak in 91 or 99 % IPA . That should loosen it up enough to be able to spray it clean from there . Mike
I can't see why... I use clean my airbrush with 70% rubbing alcohol, it doesn't harm the o rings for spraying only a cup full of the stuff, then spray a cup full of water to fully rinse out. It sure does a good job of getting the inside clean.
yep, got super lucky. I had poured out what was in the bell and that and the cap were a serious pain in the pooper to clean but it was still relatively fluid down inside so the part I was most worried about cleaned up in a matter of seconds. I have to think because it's cooler and dryer down in the basement that it hadn't all evaporated out like it certainly would have upstairs where it's warm. Still ran some isopropyl I picked up on the way home through it and then rinsed with water like was said above, but it sure feels to me like the biggest dodge since Gordie and Vern. It's all shiny and clean and ready to get back to work in the AM.
What we have here is 200 1mm x 1mm square glass beads on a monofilament that needs to be painted multiple colors. The knots are tied tight so there's no separation, so the plan was simple... clip one end, pull some beads off so that there will be enough slack to separate the rest into several sections that can be tied off and cut, then feed the rest back onto a couple of other pieces of monofilament. It was a sound plan... I had just better never meet the clown who came up with this plan, because somebody should drag him out back and kick his you-know-what-anatomical-part. It's pretty common when people hear I've taken up model railroading for them to respond with "I don't have that kind of patience", which makes me laugh most of the time because I am far from the most patient person out there at least 90% of the time. This, though? This is exactly the kind of thing they are envisioning when they say that. Beyond tedious, it took me almost 2hrs, my eyes are crossed, and my hands hate me now. BUT - let's go painting! Have some other stuff to throw in the box to do today, too, so going to be a painting party all day. I have an appointment after lunch, but should be able to get all this knocked out afterwards so that it's ready for the weekend when I can sit down and get it all put together.
Am hoping this turns out interesting, at least. Will finish shooting all the colors tonight when I get home, then tomorrow get up with a BIIIIIIG cup of coffee and start in on all of it. Will post some photos after.
when did a can of compressed air get to be so freaking much? $10 for a can of duster?? Crikey. Lots to do today, coffee not helping. Rain and apocalyptic gloom outside not helping. The overwhelming likelihood of Michigan beating TCU not helping. Just going to be one of those days, I guess. Drink more of the black stuff and get on with it
