Welcome back everyone, and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I hope you all had a good weekend. Let's dig in and see what we accomplished.

Saturday: As predicted, car work was easy this week and only entailed fine tuning the carburetor on the Falcon and fine tuning and checking fluid levels. I still have some more I want to do to her, but she is now a daily driver. We picked up Angela's car and took both her dad and grandma out for a nice relaxing dinner. They will be gone to Florida for six weeks when I return from Massachusetts, so it was nice to visit over a relaxing dinner. The hour and a half drive home with the Falcon was the shakedown cruise and she passed with flying colors.

Sunday: I got to sleep in as even the dogs were tired. Up and at it with coffee in hand and the wife decided she wanted to go to Costco. I needed pants for work anyway, so we got cleaned up, made a stop for breakfast and continued on for shopping. Once home, I cleaned out the Falcon of the cores I need to return and bolted on the new plates, so she was legal. Took her out to top off the tank and came home. I punched into work for about an hour to get ready for Monday and get some work done on the Amherst Railroad Hobby show. Once I punched out, I realized the weekend was over so the only model railroading I did this weekend was for Athearn.

So how about you? What did you accomplish this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 20th to start the process all over again. Until then, for those who have the federal holiday off, enjoy an extra day, for the rest of us, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

I actually did some work on my enginehouse! Wow. How did I finally manage that? Started debating the paint scheme I should apply, after a bit more work. Should I match the gray/maroon of other RR structures for my mini-empire? How should I weather it? I do not want it to look like it has been neglected, just well used for decades. But now I am wondering if anyone has ever offered a small (HO scale) assortment of exterior details, which would be found scattered outside. Maybe a stand with a couple of 55 gallon drums, containing solvent, lube oils, etc. A couple of other such barrels, free standing. And? Well, I am having some fun imagining a scene.

    Good mornin to Y'all

    My weekend, was awesome.

Saturday evening, my wife and I met up with a few old and dear friends. What a blast.

I was able to work on the FA/FB project.
(I painted the details as well)
Next up: clear coat, adding a few more details and window glass. Then some weathering.

    Added some details.

Thus far everything has gone well after the back injection on Friday. I slept off the anesthesia for a good part of Friday. Over the weekend my biggest problem was trying to not “overdo it “as there was very little pain. I have some pain occasionally and the doctor did tell me there could be some over the next week or so. However, the pain is in the 1, 2 range not the 8, 9, 10 I was getting before the shot.

I went to the Greenberg Train Show on Saturday. My first go around was a disappointment as I found nothing that I had gone to the show in hopes of finding, The few things I found that did interest me were selling for MSRP. At first, I thought I made a mistake going as there were no bargains within the HO venders. However, on my second pass through I found some dealers with decent prices with some stuff that piqued my interest. I did find a couple of the Broadway Limited 6000 Gallon Tank Cars. Since they are coming out with a new run I wanted to get a couple of the current run to see how they looked and ran. I found a Rapido New Haven PA1 that I have been looking at for quite a while. The vendor’s price beat anything I had seen elsewhere. The surprise find was a Broadway Limited Jersey Central Mikado. Since CNJ steam is rare for me to find and I had not seen any BLI steam I grabbed it. I tested it last night and it runs well. It needs some cleaning and once in a while it stalls on switches at low speeds. I plan to run the PA tonight.

Around the house we put away Christmas decorations. We still have the tree and the outside stuff. We tried out the robot vacuum my daughter got us for Christmas and were pleased with the results. Also did a few other small chores.

Happy Monday! The weekend went pretty much as planned. Did a little railfanning Saturday morning and then visited 3 LHS's in the area. Was pretty wiped out so back to the hotel late afternoon and early to bed. Slept what was late for me on Sunday morning. Got up, made the Railfan Photos of the Week post and headed out. Grabbed breakfast and spent the whole day trackside watching trains and catching up on some reading. All and all, a good weekend. Now it's back at it to get a project rolled out and hopefully be headed home Saturday.

Hope you all have a great week!

I was able to spend some time on the Digital Model Railroad this weekend -- a lot of it was doing car liveries, as well, the developer of the software introduced a new feature, where we can have up to 9 different loads on the car (selectable) so that will enhance operations quite a bit - -so I was busy working on cars getting that set up -- additionally, I did some modeling work on a well car and its interchangeable loads, I have some more work to do on that today -- im hoping to model a couple interesting types of cars as well -- turbine blade cars, schnable (sp?) heavy load cars and maybe a few others, we'll see how things go. I spent a good bit of time enjoying football and family this weekend as well

    Have a great week

Bowling Friday was a mixed bag had two good games and one bad one and the team managed 5 points out of 7.

Went to the club on Saturday and had some problems, I found out that I did not have the insulated wheels on the same and that caused a dead short. Also I found a car with McJunkies couplers that were no longer coupling. Later I decaled one side of a boxcar and caboose.

Sunday did the laundry and finished the decaling then pulled out a Tangent G43 gon that I had not finished and added some miscellaneous detail parts and have a few yet to finish.

    Good morning all,

On Friday I did get out and clean up most of the storm debris in the back yard before the rain returned. When the rain did return, it continued almost constantly the rest of the weekend but without the strong winds we had been having last week. I spent quite a bit of time in the train room fiddling with the Point to Point control system for the Asian modules while running trains around the main layout. After solving problems as they were discovered, I had it working by Sunday afternoon. Still need to finish the final wiring and then paint for the remote sensor stand.

Happy Monday. Weekend "sorta" went as planned. Worked a little on the elevated bridge with some progress there.

Also, spent a lot of time "putzin' " around with temporary control panels for 2 areas where track is not finalized. The time was spent watching wiring videos and deciding how I want to do the LED lights. So I spent a lot of time with an electronic bread board experimenting w/ various LED's and resistors. After all of that, I calculated wire size and for the LED's and the Tortoise stall currents, etc. I need 24awg copper. I have plenty of 22awg, but the wrong color. So I ordered 24awg hook up wire for the color convention I want to use. HOWEVER, I do have the wiring scheme, the LED's, resistors, etc all scoped out and tested on the breadboard.

    Have a great week all.

    Hi all.

It's Monday evening here in Germany. My weekend plan is almost done. However, the wiring will have to wait a little longer. The inner parallel track is already in the progress. View the pics here.....

    Hey All,

I worked on a few freight car detailing projects here and there, but the main project was to push to complete assembly on this Mine Mount Models kit. I am building the Wilson's Fine Mustard kit as the "Kansas and Texas Supply Company" for my layout, drawing on old newspaper ads for the area. I am still working on a few roof details and some of the steps. Here is where it stands today....

Apologies for the bad lighting, as I was getting shadows from the garage windows.

    Take Care All,

    Already Tuesday morning in Japan-

Great weekend-rainy so I “had” to stay indoors most of the time. Played games with the kids, met some friends for lunch, did a few errands, went out for ramen and made a rack of ribs.

But that’s not why you’re reading this post

    Between all that I-

    1) Weathered 4 Atlas Greenville Hoppers

    2) Fixed some mistakes I made on paint for 3 Metra Pullman coaches

    3) Weathered 2 ScaleTrains carbon hoppers

    4) (Lightly) Weathered a Fox Valley Gevo.

    5) Put a primer coat down on another Gevo I’m repainting.

    6) Weathered two Atlas trash flats

    7) Weathered an Atlas corn syrup tank car.

    8)Weathered a MTL airslide hopper.

I’ll post some more details and photos on my WC Waukesha Sub thread after work. But here is one of each, less the GEVO in primer.

The benchwork for the helix is up and leveled. I plopped the first level on to get the feel. In this corner the lower track starts at 49 and the top deck should end up close to 61". The garage slopes to the right so everything else will only be up to 1-1/2" higher.

The sense of commitment is sinking in.

Cheating here as I did not post any goals for the weekend. Frankly did not think I would get to any modeling. Sometimes Fortune smiles in your direction.

Quickly exhausted the available tax forms and put that project on hold. Fixed my son's hot water kettle for the upteenth time. Think I found a better solution. Put the last of the Christmas decorations into storage. Toured a couple houses my wife wanted to see. Got a tetanus booster. All of which left me with some time. What to do? What to do?

I experimented with some adhesive for filling seams. The results were good. Meaning it was time to finally finish the disc drivers for UP 2295. What's it been? 18 months? I now knew how much material I would need to remove from the stock Kato Mikado main driver to make the disc fit under the siderods: .025". Now I am faced with the scariest part of all. Risking the main drivers, no longer produced, of the locomotive. So, yeah, I'm a bit nervous. Fortunately, I do have a couple spare secondary parts I can experiment on before putting end mill to plastic in earnest. The big accomplishment was completing Rev B of the tooling to do the job. Hopefully adequate.

Wish me luck. May get to it this week, may not. We will see.

    Stay safe,

    What did I accomplish?

    Not much.

Friday and Saturday I did homework and watched the robot vacuum the first floor. Saturday I did look over my DCC conversion project and ordered some alligator clips to be delivered on Monday. I currently have two inoperable decoders that I bought used, and before I start using new, store bought, decoders, I want to make sure that I am not the one making them inoperable.

Sunday was church, then a couple hours at the Sebring Model Railroad Club, then a couple more at an indoor picnic at the therapeutic riding center where my wife works as an instructor. In my short time at the club, I did talk to some prospective new members, let one of them run my rolling stock with a couple locomotives that he brought, and handed out two application forms.

Since Monday was a national holiday, I told my secretary to stay home and had a long weekend. I got started on this week's homework (probably 150 or more pages of reading, plus some written reflections), went for a walk with my wife and the dogs, took the dogs to the dog park, talked to our son about wedding planning and our trip to Texas (for said wedding) in two weeks, stopped at Aldi on the way home, went to scouts, did some more reading, and called it a day.

I have read so many consumer reports about these things. Do work. Don't work. Sort of work. Seems like a bit of a gamble to find out if they do or don't.

I found a guy on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@VacuumWars) that buys them (pretty much all of them) and runs them all through a battery of standardized tests so that he can compare them in an apples-to-apples sort of way. I subscribed for six months to a year because we were thinking about it. So, when we found a good sale on black Friday, I could look to see which sale items scored well. Ours does have some issues that his standardized tests wouldn't find, but overall it's been a good choice. It's not perfect, but like it because I can "vacuum" while I do homework or work in the basement (and it texts me if it gets stuck). My wife likes it because I vacuum every week and she doesn't have to do it. If I make a mess bringing firewood in, or the dog dumps the copper cauldron that we keep firewood in, I can just summon the robot, draw a box around where the mess is, and it vacuums that spot. Easy peasy.

On our second iRobot Vacuum, first one lasted about 6 years before battery problems, which is normal. Cheaper to get a new vacuum in most cases. Your mileage may vary :) New one has an App of course. There seems to be an App for everything now :)
