Looking for organizational ideas on storing electronic components. I'm using several plastic boxes shoe box size. I've bought several kits that come with assortments of resistors, diodes, capacitors, LEDs etc that come in little baggies. I also have switches, small OLED screens and other Arduino accessories. Would like to find a good way to organize these without having to stir through the flotsam of the boxes each time. I don't have space for the usual small drawer organizers I see on Amazon. I'm looking for ideas that won't cost too much and will fit in a 3x3x1 foot cupboard with some shelves.
These are the types of storage I've used for small electronic components. They come in a variety of drawer and cabinet sizes.
Even cheaper - these plastic divided compartment storage boxes. You can find them at dollar stores, Target/Wal-Mart, any hardware store or art supply store... ...and Pro Tip: You can also get more to store your couplers, wheelsets, detail parts and other model railroad items!
I ended up using something like Brad's. Semiconductors like resistors, capacitors, LEDs, etc. are long, so wouldn't fit the square organizers I had.
Those case types are good for field work but as Hardcoaler said, the shapes of the compartments might not fit the components. Some do have movable dividers. When I was working I had a couple heavy duty ones in my van that held materials for alarm and cable television work.
Check the fishing section at Walmart or your local megamart. Adjustable compartment boxes like these will fit the bill nicely. https://planomolding.com/products/3700-stowaway-4pack-plasm374?variant=40468124172448
Check Harbor Freight. They have a lot of those little storage boxes that are perfect for our hobby. And, it's HF's low prices!
Similar to other suggestions but since I live in a small town with limited buying options most of my stuff comes via UPS or USPS. I've got 5 -- 6 packs of ( THESE ) that I use. Sumner
