I've been busy getting back into T scale. I've built a small (20" X 16") layout. I have 2 of the black G8s, boxcars, a tank car and some autoracks from Shapeways. I wanted a larger loco to pull the autoracks. I used the "new" 6-axle powered chassis. I used the clear body that came with it. I added and subtracted pieces until I came up with something passable.
How did you do the lettering/decals? I've 3D printed all of my rolling stock, including engine shells, but I've been hesitant to crap them up with crappily self-made, DIY decals.
Just being able to work on something so small is astonishing by itself. Kudos from me. Anything at that scale is amazing.
I make my own decals using my ALPS printer. I use Printshop to find the closest font. I add any graphics either from Printshop or the web. I print it on paper and scan the image. Then I shrink the image to the correct size. I print several layers of white under lighter colors. The best way to do it on an inkjet printer is to print the image on white decal paper and do some really close cutting. You can also try to print a matching background color behind the image to make it easier to trim.
