I tried once before to make some little shelves for the upstairs of this thing, but I put exactly one shelf in them which means either very tall books or a ton of dead space. Either way, they looked dumb so got fragged. Still needed something, though, because it's pretty busy IRL:

    1_aX_R8AOKN3dcf1gSjUTRkg.jpeg

I made up a couple of new ones from 1/16" square balsa, then used some Minwax polyshade that I had around to get the color close...ish - is what I had around lol I mean yes, I am basing this somewhat faithfully off Nobeoka Station, but like a biopic film about a 70s band that takes more than a few liberties with the facts, I'm making my own thing here. Still, these would come out to right about 12ft height to scale, so would be close to what it would really look like.

    20221231_093838_resized.jpg

Now comes the fun part... remember all those itty bitty beads I just painted??

    20221231_093827_resized.jpg

Yeah, you know where this is headed! Took a detail brush and "painted" some clear-drying Titebond into each shelf one at a time, then filled up my shelves with books. Had to use a hobby knife to push each into place along the bottom of the shelf. The top shelf of the one is even mostly all reference books just like the "real thing" (it's a little harder to see because of the shadows). Going to let the glue set overnight then will clear these guys.

    20221231_135021_resized.jpg

Took a while and my eyes and hands hate me again, but I am really happy with it. I think once all these little details get stuffed into the same space together, it's going to look pretty good. New wiring mounts should be here Tuesday, so might be able to get the whole project done this week with a couple of days off. Definitely getting close.

It's not really feasible that JR Kyushu would spring for marble floors in a public railway station but guess what... my railroad, my rules! I didn't really set out for this result, was just messing about, but I am a fan of the outcome.

    20230101_091321.jpg

Painted from behind on the textured side, did a black wash first then shot the beige over that, then a third dark brown backing color, and finally a matte clear on both sides to seal it and take some of the gloss off. Am digging it.

so, I borked up one of my Outland buildings I am doing a bash with and cut a little too much off of (ironically why I absolutely love Outland buildings for bashes... make a mistake? Oh well, it's $7 for a new one) and had to order another to finish it.

I've never gotten a catalog - well, sorta - from them before, but this time they sent me one. It's actually really cool, is just photos of what's possible from what builders have done with their models. This one, though... don't get me wrong, is super creative, I'm just a bit surprised this was chosen for a marketing campaign. You can't make stuff like this up lol

That’s…interesting. I like putting little “Easter Eggs” in the build, inside little jokes or stories that I know are there and watching to see if my daughters or anyone else who sees my layout finds it.

If this is something like that-what I want to know is why the people around this aren’t helping (or at least staring) they are just sitting calmly on the bench and or standing next it. It’s weird-whatever story the person is telling would be too unsettling/weird for me to transition back to focusing on trains. Are trains just passing through a town where they just finished up some regularly scheduled human sacrifice? So every around the fountain came to watch and now it’s done so they can go back about their day? If I’m visiting this layout, I’m basically spending a significant amount of time confused and looking for answers.

But if that’s the modeler’s purpose anyway-well done, I guess (?). I’m a guy who has a cow walking into a Dairy Queen and Medusa tucked in on top on the Walthers cement distribution plant. One day I’ll have businesses in an industry park named after the evil corporations from movies, that sort of thing. So maybe I’m just not avant-garde enough as a modeler-artists.

And Yeah-also a weird thing to put in your catalog. I suppose any other pics they got were basically people staring a normal fountain and they went with something different-but still weird choice.

I have a 'Yoda' that stands about 1/2 " tall. I move it around in the tree lines around the layout just to see if anyone notices. They usually don't...:LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

couldn't sleep thanks to the world's most persistent sinus infection, so I just got up and started on my buildings - the Outlands usually go together pretty easily, even when you have to cut and glue a billion times like I seem to like to do!

Still needs paint, acetate in the windows, and the billboard made for the top, but was able to finish my Duty-Free shop for my Akiba. I had it mostly done I just needed the last 5 stories on the one side, which I got yesterday.

    20230107_071520.jpg

and then, of course, instead of actually doing any of those things, I decided instead to keep the construction crew on site and fabbed up the arcade that will go next to it, also a borderline obnoxious bash of two Outland apartment kits (the DF is 3 kits, but it took 4 to finish it ). This one I did fashion the billboard for - don't ask why, ADHD is funny like that sometimes lol but it still needs a ton of work yet, too. Paint, windows cut, lights, decals, etc.

    20230107_071711.jpg

Have two more buildings in the row yet, both will be 100% scratches, plus one on the other side of the overpass that will also be a ground-up, but in about 3hrs time, that side of the street has really started coming together.

These are both super fun. I have a couple planned for my layout when I get to them, as well.

    Vacation, Day 1

This has been in the works for a while - only our accrued sick leave carries over year to year, so any unused time is just forfeit. As in not paid. As in "use it or lose it". I have 7 of the next 8 off, and 5 in a row. I've had biiiiig plans for this!

And, wouldn't you know, I have everything working against me already lol It is the darkest, crappiest, soggiest, most Edgar Allen Poe day outside that I can remember in a long time here. A driving thunderstorm, in January, in Ohio?? Come on, that's not a thing, that's how bad end-of-the-world movies start! I've also been fighting an upper respiratory infection following an oral surgery last week and between the prednisone, triazolam, capmist, and addaprin diet that has crucified anything resembling regular sleep lately, it's not much foggier outside than it is in my head.

Woke up at 6AM excited for the day, it's a quarter after 9 and after doing the dishes I feel like I might be done for the day HAHA

So, the plan was to get all kinds of things done on the train stuff today, but am pretty sure I need a decompression day first. Good news is today is the last day of the steriods and capmist, both of which soak up every drop of fluid they can find - no joke, been drinking 3+ gallons per day and still feel like I could use a saline IV 24/7.

Tomorrow should be a green light, definitely want to get a couple of things knocked out while I have the time. For now, though, I think the couch and a movie marathon is calling my name a little more loudly than my Xacto and airbrush seem to be (y)

Vacation time on the couch, well, that can work wonders for you! At least until your feeling better. Take a rest and enjoy a nap!

an interesting phenomenon is taking place in casa de Pfunk the last two days... twice I have sat down to marathon and work on things, and twice I've made it 5-10 minutes into it and then said 'Nah, I don't wanna'.

The weather outside sucks. I am very close to broke. Everyone I know is at work. There is literally *NOTHING* keeping me from working on this, but somehow watching reruns on Hulu and looking at bike parts online is more entertaining than doing the one thing I thought I wanted to do with my days off.

In two day's time, I've managed to cut a half dozen plexiglass windows and glue 5 figures in place. That's it. And I'm somehow perfectly fine with this :ROFLMAO:

So, it looks like I might not get as much done on my layout with my staycation as I had hoped. I very well may make it through all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights (again) though!! HAHAHA Sometimes the wave breaks like you want it to, sometimes you just have to ride it out I guess, eh?

I mean, either way, I'm not at work, soooooooo...

Sometimes it is good to just shutdown and let the brain go quiet 'doing' nothing. Then, when you are up and around, you will be able to get motivated again!

Yeah, but I'm better at plannin' and spittin' on my hands than I am at gettin' stuff done... Paralysis by analysis.

I designed electronics for a living, and learned real quick that analysis ahead of time beats analysis afterwards! Maybe I take it a bit far (especially since I retired and don't have a boss with a deadline!) I was often late getting a project into the lab, but seldom late getting it out!

Good morning TB! Yes, I am still here, no I did not give up and give all my stuff to the neighbor kid lol

The irony is my last post a couple of weeks ago was about how I didn't want to do anything with my layout right now, and now I really can't even though I do want to.

    IMG_0365.JPG

I took a spill at work and reinjured a goofy radial fracture from when I ate it on some ice about 6yrs ago. Bad old cellphone photo, but you can see where it fused itself back together with that awkward shelf - why I can't golf anymore, anytime my arm goes completely straight that little monstrosity causes my radial nerve to shoot electricity through my fingers and it suuuuucks. I mean, if I could REALLY shoot electricity out my fingers like some Greek god that'd be sweet, but sadly I just get the pain so I have to avoid things I used to really enjoy like golf and softball, etc.

It didn't break anything this time, but it did whack that joint hard enough that I have been having nerve issues in that right arm and hand especially - numbness, pins and needles, sometimes it just cramps up with no warning and curls up like a dead spider for 15-20 seconds - fun s**t in general.

Needless to say, I have not been spending much time online or working on tiny hobby projects. I have a hard time writing with a pen right now because it's a 50/50 whether putting pressure on my hand is going to be a challenge, I don't want to even think about using an Xacto lol but wanted to get on and at least see what folks have been up to the last couple of weeks.

Supposedly I'll be back up to speed in another couple myself, will have to see. I can count on one hand how many bones I have broken in my almost 48yrs, is just funny that this is the one that might cause that hand to do some crazy cartoon stuff out of nowhere and makes getting dressed feel like Harvard math 55.

I hit the Like button just because glad to hear from you. I understand, I deal daily with the injuries from 26+ years in Law Enforcement. You are in my prayers my friend. There is a Carpal Tunnel surgery that deals with the elbow nerves [i've had it], is that a possibility for relief?

Was discussed a couple of years ago but the way it was presented was there's no guarantee it would improve/fix things and was only a middle-of-the-road chance to begin with because of where the radial nerve sits. It's not really anything that normally bothers me, I just have to pay attention to what am doing. I went backwards off a ladder at work and tried to brace my fall with my arm, which jammed the joint. Was only about 3ft and was of course pure instinct, but it rattled everything again. Is not a huge deal, just obnoxious for a little while.

Today is first day out of the sling, so seeing what I can get away with by getting on the interwebs here and there :sneaky:

It's kind of funny, was still killing me about 6mos after it happened so I went back in and got it Xrayed, that's when we found out it healed kind of whopperjawed. Choices at the time were go in with a bone saw, cut it off and pin it in place where it should be, or do PT to build scar tissue up around it. Was still in college and broke as crap then so went with option B. Still don't know which would have been the better choice tbh

Either way, is more inconvenience than trauma or anything, just have to give it time to settle back in place. I get to play with different colored rubber bands again for a while, too haha Thanks for the kind words.

Hope you don't get any worse. Mine have been worse in a different way. My right shoulder and hip were dislocated and reset in the field, VietNam. Along with a fractured neck and skull. MASH wasn't there. That and a broken wrist, and right shoulder all have cartilage damage which leads to nerve damage.
It was fun growing up on a farm, military and motorcycles.

Yes, I understand exactly what you mean with the electricity shooting out of your arm. I've struggled with back problems for years and with me it's like it's shooting out of the bottom of my foot and sometimes accompanied by muscle spasms. Once setting up at a train show this happened, and I was told that it looked like I had been kicked in the rear by the invisible man because I just seemed to jump for no reason.
