Hi everybody A life long O gauger, and now I'm working on my wife's N gauge layout She has a Bachman 4 4 0 steam engine that needs traction tires We live in Philadelphia and I'm just curious, is this a hobby shop item or should I be looking online? I also notice the two sizes seem to be 4 millimeter or five millimeter, I'm taking a wild guess that it's the four millimeter. This is a picture from Bachmans website https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=70_79 Thanks Joe
Thank you The only problem is I have no idea what size wheels they are for what millimeter traction tires I will need, Any chance there is a universal chart somewhere that I haven't found yet
@Transmissionmanjoe Moose recently used the website that Doug mentioned, and would suggest that you send them an email request for a recommendation. Just let them know what locomotive and the approximate driver diameter in mm. For Moose's pair of larger Con-cor locomotives which have ~ 11.85 mm diameter drivers, they recommended "...the 9 or 10mm for this locomotive. We usually default to the 0.35 thickness for steam locomotives. They tend to be finicky, however, some older locomotives require a slightly thicker tire."
You may also consider using BFS (Bull Frog Snot) That is what I use rather than disassembling the loco to install new traction tires.
