That 1969 Newport was a BIG car, a C-body. Only the biggest engines would move it with any authority, so they are favorites for sources of Mopar big blocks, like the 383 and 440. With a 4 bbl carb, thirsty, too, even if you didn't drive with your foot in the secondaries. Something tells me you had at least a 383 it it!

When I started driving gas was $0.42 per gallon. So adjusting for inflation that would be about $4.20+. My 8 year old car cost $200. Now they go for $20,000. My pay was $1.25 per hour. Now even easier jobs go for $16.

So, what's all the complaining about?

In 1959 I pulled into a gas station and saw the pump showed 49.9 Cents. I immediately pulled out telling my wife, I'll NEVER pay 49 Cents for gas.

In 1959 the average pump price was 25.9. Oh well, too soon old, too late smart.

When I brought my first car home, '55 Ford, I parked in front of the machine shed and checked it out. My father came buy and pointed at the farms two fuel drums, two 55 gallons up on a stand, and told me one time you may fill up - One Time - after that you are on your own.

I had this Lego 310 Esso Service Station kit when I was a kid and may still have the parts to build it. One of these winter days I'm going to unbox my Legos and see what I can find. :)

Above it is in N Scale printed with a filament printer. Might print reduced in Z with a resin printer. More info ( HERE ) with links to the print files.

Found this in Saginaw, Michigan and couldn't resist posting a couple of photos. If you look at the right hand post in the second photo, it looks like it may have been painted as part of a community program of some sort. Note the "Paint Saginaw" inscription. At any rate, I thought it was remarkable that it's still there and also that it was painted by an artist with both talent and a sense of humor. "Sorry. Out of Service." Well done and interesting, I thought.

Much talent shown in those images. The horse is breaking up and the front is breaking down. (y) The past!

This is a really interesting picture! I like how it is tucked in there, with the larger (warehouse maybe?) building behind it.

Does anyone know what the white wall (to the right of the garage bays) is? Is it just blocking the view of the other building, or is there some other purpose to it?

I am really liking seeing all of the stations from the 1950's era. Great reminders of my boyhood.

Zooming in, it looks like the "white wall" on the right is the side of a single story storefront (or garage) that, in turn, has a three story building on *its* right.

Ahhhh, I see it now! I can barely make out a storefront/building front on the very right edge. Interesting - I wonder if they painted that wall white to blend in with the gas station?

The entire facility looks to be new or just renewed. As does the paint on that wall. Could have been done in preparation for application of some gas station company logo or advertising? The wall itself might be what is known as a "shared" or "mutual" wall. Co-owned by both the adjacent properties. A station/C-store I owned years ago had a "shared" wall.
