All, A manufacturer is considering producing this 60' tank car in Z scale ($50/each, $99 for three). It will come with a sheet of decals for three cars each of many different owners, there will be a choice of Black, White, or Blue bodies; all details will be Poly-Jet printed on the body (there will be space between the ladders and the body, and there will be valves, etc. on the dome lids which will also have detail. This will be a one-piece model (solid) so it will have some weight to it. It will come ONLY with MTL trucks and couplers which the modeler will have to attach. I need to know if this is a car that y'all would purchase and interested in. John Bartolotto
John, I would probably be interested in a three pack as well. Can you tell us who is planning on making these? Is the Poly-jet an RP acryllic or something like that? Thanks, Randy
I'd definitely be interested in a 3-pack (and possibly more). Modern Tankers are something that's sorely needed in Z scale
What's that John (shamoo737)? Did you say that I could have your 3-pack also? Thanks! Make mine a 9'er!! Out of curiosity, what kind of coupler is that on the right side of the car? (look at the larger picture on the yahoo forum)
As much as I need tank cars for my refinery/chemical module that is planned for later on this year (waiting on MTL's new turnouts), I'll pass in these tank cars for now. Would really like to see the final product before staking a claim. Your description of these tank cars makes the material they are made from sound like something similar to arcylic RP. I am the proud owner of several pieces of acrylic RP "Z" items from 3 seperate companies. If the tank car you are describing is indeed made from acrylic RP or similar material, the detail pieces and ladders would be very delicate. Some of the RP items I have now have broken at the slightest of pressure. Once from just picking it up to look at it. The Waffle side box car I own has etched metal detail parts. No delicate details to brake! Please, if I am wrong about the type of material the tank cars will be made of, let me know. I applaud your effort in setting up such a possibility. I hope all works out! Tim I call it as I see it! [ March 17, 2006, 02:48 PM: Message edited by: HoboTim ]
All, Thanks for the great response. I am not allowed at this time to release the manufacturer's name or anyother details. Couplers will be MTL. I will also voice your concerns to the manufacturer about the Poly-Jet material. John Bartolotto
Ok John, it's been almost ten days. Any news?? Where can we buy them?? Just a little bump to keep this topic warm.
Bryan, I heard from John today. He was traveling for awhile and just got back. He is talking with the manufacturer still. You can blame me for any delays since I requested that he investigate having them do a funnel flow tank car rather than just a simple cylindrical tank car. They are looking it to it, but no answer back yet. If they move ahead with this project, I personally would want something that would be a little bit harder to scratch build. I'm not sure what the actual numbers are, but it seems like I usually see more funnel flow style cars out there than any other kind of tank car. They've been around since the 1969's. Randy
Welcome to Trainboad Yoshi, Did you find the NA bumpers you were looking for. Aren't you happy with all the new stuff coming out.
