My latest purchase was a grain bin dryer from RailheadDesigns on Esty. My grain bins are from Rix and didn't come with any and I really wanted at least one. I found this one already in color, silver and orange and for only $3 with $4.66 shipping I didn't think I could go wrong and I didn't, it looks great. Still need some more streetlights and I believe I will go with more of the Atlas ones. Problem is I need to slow down or I will run out of things to do on those rainy days or this winter when cabin fever sets in. I also see too many good ideas on this fourm and get the "itch".

Trains, I understand. I just finished a Woodlands Scenic passenger station kit, then swore that I would never do another. It wasn't the assembly as much as painting the trim work and details. At least it does give me a greater respect for those people that assemble and paint those pre-built buildings for a living.

These arrived today. Got a very good price on both loco and the tank car lot. I have a bunch of knuckle couplers sitting waiting, so I should be good to get them all running quickly. 3 Aug 23.jpeg

I was bad, but in my defense, I was in a negative emotional state.

I bought 2 new locomotives, a pair of Kato GE ES44AC, Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotives, with sound installed.

To be clear I am not buying any more locomotives that are not DCC installed already. BNSF is the heir apparent to my Santa Fe layout.

I thought of doing a progression of era's, running from steam, through the generations of diesels and the the merger.

    Nice find, Deacon!

Looks like you'll need some wheelsets and entire trucks too.

But then I'd rather pay extra and swap entire trucks than fiddle with N scale couplers (and springs) anyway.

Either way, it ain't no step for a stepper!

Ain't no shame in that! I'm always a couple of loco's from happy!

Or is that "a couple of tank cars from loco?"

Yup, "loco" pretty much describes me, for some reason, I love tank cars.
And I have several sheets of Bachmann Knuckle couple trucks, so that will go pretty quickly.

I seldom buy special runs but just couldn't pass these up. They arrived today and are right at home on my layout.

On Wednesday I bought a refurbished BLI Milwaukee 7837 USRA Heavy Mikado with Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC direct from the BLI R department. It is my first and only steam loco. My layout is dated 80s-90s so this will be the motive power on a Milwaukee excursion train between Chicago and Libertyville. I also have 3 MTL Milwaukee heavyweight passenger cars enroute from a trusted eBay seller.

More like the last two purchases…I got an Intermountain F7 in classic Western Maryland ‘Circus’ (and with Chessie number…that’ll irritate some purists ), and then I got the decoder for it. So far, I really like it…but it’ll need some weathering! E_MG_9879.jpeg

A few more locos arrived. First is this teeny switcher from trix and then a gently used class 18 loco which is a hobbytrain Kato collaboration for the CIWL/orient express that ran all across Europe (cars ordered and coming soon).

The class 18 surprised me as it has a motor in the tender then shaft drive to the loco. Never seen that before with a Kato. It was a bit noisy on test so I pulled it apart and found the clip that holds the worm gear onto the gear drive in the loco wasn't fully in place so got that properly seated and it runs much quieter now.

Some new paint from Hobby Lobby 40% off, $14.99 is a great price. When they have their model kits 40% off, some of the cashiers will also give it on the paint kit's? A hit and miss kind of thing :) It's for the Rechargeable Airbrush. Already painted a 3D printed container. Man it takes a lot of paint but really nice to practice on these items. It's been awhile! Next to try a few more colors. IMG_2905.jpg

I found that some 3D printed models will soak up paint. I started putting down a cheaper primer brand I found in Japan before I put on whatever color I was using. Still some of them soaked up primer, but it was more cost effective.

Everything I paint red I have to use copious amounts until it looks good. It goes on so thin that just a dusting doesn't make it "pop". Some colors a little goes a long ways, red never seems to be one of them.

Also, as said above, a good primer coat works wonders. I am in love with the Vallejo pre-mixed primer, you just take the cap off the sprayer and squirt it right in, you're good to go.

@MetraMan01 @Pfunk Thanks, it is appearing to be that way for sure. I think it also depends on the 3D printer color used, which in my case most of it is Green. I will say I painted the 3D pipe load with Silver and it looks good to me. Once again it a distance thing too. When it is on the layout and mixed with other scenery, and you are viewing from a normal distance most are fine. I'm also still learning the Rechargeable Airbrush also, but getting better at it.

I need to find some more primer. One kit came with some, but don't think it is a general primer? I could use a large bottle of it too. Like 2 to 3 times bigger then my airbrush bottles cause they are tiny. And I also use the airbrush for my plastic models too.

    Thanks everyone!

    My new BNSF locomotives

I will only buy new locomotives with the decoders already installed.
While some may be DCC and non-sound, those are usually Digitrax and they are the decoders in 172 failed DCC locomotives.

ESU, ZIMO or TCS only, all decoders must have RailCom

Two nice and fresh MRL SD70ACe's from Kato. Below those are some more spare parts and a PE detail up kit from Germany for my glass loco fleet.
