Wow Kim! That logging Bobber looks great! It looks like you had just the right etched brass brakewheel for that project too! I like the roof on your stable too! Nice weathering and old wood! Excellent work! -Robert
Kim, You tease me to no end!! How do I convince you to make me about twenty of your four-wheel horse wagons?? John Barolotto
Rob, Funny you mentioned the roof. here is the history behind it. I wanted to cut some roof when I was building this model and was out of the paper that I normally use. I was looking around and saw some thick blue paper lying around, it was like card stock, I quickly dabbed some brown acrylic paint on it and cut it. The thickness of the paper has given it a good effect of shingles. Need to try wood paper for shingles it will have the real texture of wood too. I used your tape method to put the shingles. After I posted the pictures I see many flaws that I did not notice while taking pictures or while building it. Each build is a learning curve and more changes. Kim
Some new items i have been working on for laser cutting. I have made a long coal tender based on Robert Ray's drawings.
Great job Torsja! The tenders look great, and now I have more idea's as I need to modify some 0-6-0's into NP types. Your fantastic Cabs give me ideas! -Robert
I have to say, I am glad I posted this topic! This is the place to show your scratch built wonders to all of the Z community. I love seeing all this Z. So awesome. It's an exciting break from the normal items available in Z in this tiny world we live in. When Z is as large as N scale is, I won't be able to say that. Thank you all for posting your scratch built photos here. I want to request two things from all Z scalers. Please don't stop scratch building and post your photos here! Tim
i think everyone's seen the general service gondolas i built (still have a couple to finish). but since the topic is up, here they are again. dave f.
Torsja, Would you contact me off line at jsbart@pjsnet1.de I would like to talk to you about getting one of your locomotive cabs that you built. John Bartolotto
Here's 2 new ones for me this weekend... First is an A-Frame Cabin and BBQ Pit I made for Loren Snyder: Second is another horse barn. I think I like the first horse barn better, but I gave it to John Bartolotto, so I have to make another. That's all for me this weekend. -Robert
David, how much longer before we can see the FT set. I really like the A frame house. By the way, what are we having for bbq. The more I see that antenna, the more I like it.
That is the N Scale antenna! The Z Scale one looks just as nice, but a bit smaller. 5.25" versus 4" for the Z. I have a Z Scale one too. I got one of David's drop bottom gondola's in trade, and it is the most exquisite cars I have seen in Z Scale! Stuff you cannot see in the photo's well because of the car being black are full brake gear underneath, and the drop door mechanism. Also the very fine and lacy ladders really set his models apart. You have just got to see one in person to believe the detail. That car is still my prize car, and I don't think anything will upseat that position for quite a while! -Robert
Robert, that barn is fantastic! i like the A frame, too, but the barn is outstanding! i haven't done much on the FTB, the FTA is done and running on my test track. i just have to paint the D&RGW yellow and do the decals, but i just haven't had time (or inclination) to finish it. i did finish the wide vision caboose. bashed it from two MTL cabooses with a new cupola. i'll try to get a picture at lunch or tonight. i'm also working on a Rio Grande repaint of a GP35 for jurg, so that is where my available time has gone. oh yeh, that and finishing off the centerbeam flat kits Robert sent me. nice cars! but the decals are tricky. i'm getting 'em though. later, dave
I can't wait to see the wide vision caboose. Can you post a how-to when you get a chance (sounds like you are pretty busy right now). Randy
Thought I'd keep this post alive since I enjoy looking at everyone else's work, so here are some of my scratchbuilds which I'm sure most have seen already: 53' Trailer Top Gon The above picture shows the most recent version of the Top Gon (with stirrups) only partially assembled. I have an idea for the weight issue that I'm pretty sure will work, but until I get the necessary lead, I'm going to hold off on the final steps. Enjoy! - Phil
I still can't believe what I am seeing Phil , it's really made out of paper, yet is looks so much more realistic than anything I have ever seen modeled. That is nothing short of fantastic. -Robert
One of my newest creations! This past weekend I have been busy working on alot of Z projects, one of which is casting 48' trailers from a new mold. Here are some photos of what those 48' trailers were created for. I figured I'd show the detail in very large size pictures. The Spine cars are from Alan Curtis Models. Enjoy! Hobo Tim
