This is how it looked originally: This is how it is looking now: I used naillaqueremower to strip it... now i must wait for paint and decals.
I think he means nail polish remover, Acetone. I also used Acetone to strip my geep. It works great, and it was handy. I took it from my wife.
Wow! That takes guts, as Acetone is strong stuff and melts lots of different types of plastic. I have heard of using all kinds of stuff though. ELO - Easy Lift Off from Polly S Denatured Alcohol Acetone DOT 2 Brake Fluid Mineral Spirits Methanol Xylene I just use ELO as I also use it to clean and condition my paint brushes. -Robert
The problem with ELO is that it can`t be shipped out of the US. I tried to remove the walkway, but hven i did it, it broke, so i just glued it into place again. :-( :-( So all i have to do is to wait for the paint and decals.
I too really, really like ELO for paint removal. But I agree that it can be a challenge to get. I have tried with some great success the household cleaner PineSol. Fill a container deep enough to immerse the model with straight (unthinned) PineSol and leave to soak. I've tried shells from most major makers and no adverse effects yet! Chris
Never use acetone unless it specifically says that it is safe to use with plastics!!!! This stuff could melt your plastic. It can also make it brittle leading to problems later on. Just a word of advice. Russ
On all MT items I just use regular 91% alcohol form the drug store, .88 cents! Let it soak then lightly brush off the paint with an old toothbrush. Sometimes the lettering will come off and leave paint under it, just soak it a little bit longer after brushing the lettering off and the paint will come too.
I tried acetone inside an boxcar first, it femoved the paint so i tried it on the geep, and it works just fine, but! it is strong stuff!
Why not just use the un-decorated GP? Rails are off, black base, cheaper, etc. That is what I plan to do for a dark grey SP, unless MT beats me to it.
I am 14 years old som my founds are limited, and i didnt like the colours... So i use what i have....
Welll for 14 you make me proud for your efforts. Reminds me of....well, er....me ! (when I was your age). Keep on hacking. And always ask if you don't know, often things come free
Don't forget (or EVER try) Lacquer Thinner.. Kato shells dissolve in this stuff--don't ask how I know...
Jeff, Henrik is at the same point as as you are! In fact he is already painting his first locomotive and you have not started painting yours yet!:shade: haha!
But since he doesn't have to earn 6 figure salaries or at least isn't working for the man, well, I guess I had to start there too, he likely has decided to set aside the vid games and do some real 3D stuff. It's 6 on Friday and I have at least another hour, then go home and find some time this weekend to spend a few more (at least at home). There will be SOME trainin' on the weekend, gotta get that tower going! (Kim needs incentive
That's coming along nicely... Looks like a well-used and weathered unit. Which unit numbers are you going with? The boards are installed upside down... Just curious. I haven't re-done the number boards on my GP35 repaints either... Seems a little tricky, but I just haven't taken the time. Nice work! Adam
