While I don't model in HO much, my neighbor has a layout well on its way. I get to operate and put time in on building it though. He calls it the Red Rock Railroad and it is a bridge line out west. This view shows the yard on the lower level. To the right is the mainline that goes to a helix to take it up to the upper level. Once up there, it will wind around the back drop to a staging yard and branch line. We run with NCE DCC and an 8 to1 fast clock. The paper work for the industries and train make up is done on the "Ship it" program, which has worked very well. It took some practice and balancing to get it there though. Greg Elems
Greg- On the upper level, the loco at left, what is the RR name on that unit? Looks like a Rio Grande diesel. But the lettering doesn't seem to read that way? Boxcab E50
If my presbyopic eyes haven't failed me, it says "John Galt Line" on the side- also in SP-style speed lettering on the GE diesel, fourth unit in the consist. Doesn't this fellow also post on railroadforums.com as well? The name "Red Rock Railroad" sounds very familiar.....
Dan does model the John Galt line, from the book. He and I help Jim on the RRR. I have posted pictures of Jim's layout on Railroadforums. Dan is an excellent modeler and a structural engineer, so his layout designs are rock solid in all respects. Jim hasn't painted any locomotives for his RRR yet, but has provided the space and most of the materials for the layout. I was a johny come lately" to the layout building, but have sure enjoyed the time with them. We have an imformal group here in the neighborhood and will be working on Dan's layout soon and then mine. It all hinges on Dan and I getting our garages preped for layouts, LOL. Greg Elems
Ohhh for the space I have never had the pleasure of operating a layout as large as that or even seen one in operation.
You know Greg, it's kinda ironic, I once had a freelanced HO Layout called the Red Rock & Western. The locomotives (All SD40T-2 Snoots from Athearn) were in a silver and burgandy scheme that was very similar to Trona's scheme. I miss that old RR, but I grew up, and moved out and dismanteled it. A friend wanted the T-2's for his SP layout and so they got remotored (I had the regular Athearn drives, he switched to A-line) and he painted them. They still look and run great though and are regular runners on his layout.
