Thought I would start a topic on what a layout looked like when track was laid and what it looks like now.

Here a 4 pics that show my layout. The first 2 are of the original layout and the second 2 are of the extension the the layout.

You can see what a difference scenery makes to a layout. I quite enjoy looking back at pictures of the layout and see how far it has progressed.

Sir I must say your pics are a inspiration to me, I like the idea of the concrete retaining walls, making me think I need hidden trackage, to get more bang fer my buck. I keep noticing in your photos there is some sort of elevator or a mine with conveyors, what kid of kit is that, it is in the first pic on this post thread. Looks like some sort of loader , or maybe a rock plant, nice looking kit would be great fer a kit bash that I have planned. Adios from texas

Actually it was scratchbuilt from cardboard by a friend of mine. It is a cement works that receives limestone from my limestone plant which was also built by the same friend

Here is a pic from a different angle

    Paul-

Your fourth photo has something interesting to me. Above the CP loco, in town there is a building on the street corner. The upper story overhangs an angled lower floor. I am reminded of a similar structure in a town nearby from my youth.

What is the origin of this? Commercial kit? Scratchbuilt?

    Ken,

All those buildings where scratchbuilt either from plans from Model Railroader or off photographs. All are built using cardboard :D I'd like to take the credit but once again the same friend has built all these structures for me.

Here is a closer look at some of the buildings

    Nice shots Colonel!

    Your detailing is excellent.

I'll put up some more of the DL&W soon. I'm almost finished with a scratch built 'Merchants Refrigerated Warehouse'.

    Thanks for sharing your layout.

Excellent work and pictures, Paul. [IMG]

    MODELERS TAKE NOTE:
Observe how Paul's use of those curved Peco turnouts creates flowing trackwork, and minimizes the need for 'S-bends' in yard throats and crossovers.... [IMG] .....this not only looks great, all equipment performs so much better on such trackwork.
    regards / Mike :D

Paul- good pictures! It's fun to see before & after shots of about anything.

I take it you're looking for some of us to post pics as well, so here goes. Hope these pictures aren't too large for anyone, I know they're pretty long!

I must say though that none of these areas are considered to be 'done' quite yet. I still haven't put trees in places they're going, and I need to put in more weeds & misc growth. But they're MUCH closer to being done than they are in the first pic of the series.

    Dave,

That is exactly what I'm looking for. The scenes you posted look excellent, I particularly like the drain pipe which tends to add a lot of realism.

    Thanks for posting the pics.

    Dave-

I really like the way you did that low green ground cover. It reminds me of places I have enjoyed watching trains.
