Ouch, what a weekend! I got sunburned from being on the football field all day Saturday and half of Sunday. On Saturday my son’s team the Drexel Hill Raiders Pee Wee AAA defeated the Glenolden Indians 27-13. It was quite amazing game considering we only had 12 players and they had a full offensive and defensive teams plus a few left over. On Sunday, however, his other team the Drexel Hill Raiders Pee Wee AA lost to the Clifton Rams 6-0. On the modeling side of things I laid a big goose egg and got nothing done. I did seal three locomotives in anticipation of weathering them but that is a far as it got. [ September 12, 2005, 07:01 AM: Message edited by: Tompm ]
Well. I got my goals done. For my "C&C Dog Treat Co." plant I got the big wall built from DPM Modules. Got the windows painted and also masked and painted the base for the signboard at the top of the building. Plus, I got 5 cars airbrushed and ready to be decaled. Tonight if I can get a picture snapped and uploaded, I will edit the post.
My "One Type of Creek" continues. Hope to be painted by next weekend. This item has taken about 5 weeks so far, much longer than I anticipated. http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/006487.html? [ September 12, 2005, 08:09 AM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Well, I actually got something done finally. Friday evening I got a call from the LHS that my Digitrax order was in. Saturday morning, I picked it up (radio/IR equipped SuperChief base station and four UT4R throttles) and started reading. I added a 3'-long shelf above a power outlet under the layout to hold the base station, power supply and throttles (there's about a foot of air above the shelf, and it's under a section of layout that is 18" wide so it's all easy to get to), then tore out the track and wiring above it. Why'd I tear out the existing track? The layout section in question is one that I got from another modeler. The track is code 80 when I want to use code 55, the existing plan is laid directly on a sheet of homasote with no elevation changes in the surrounding scenery, the track is not in the schematic that I need, the existing wiring was a rather complicated mess of wires, relays and (huge) infrared emitters/detectors. Since I acquired the layout section more for the benchwork than anything else, all the extras went into the dumpster. The only salvageable materials were a few ground throws. Maybe by October I'll have some new track in this section and a decoder-equipped engine to play with...
Painted cloud test #2, very happy with results. Clouds are pretty easy to make once you get the zen of it all. Also built 20 trees and 6 (dead) amature trees. Once I build a few more trees, the backdrop gets painted with clouds and I install a few dozen background trees. Pictures soon.
I got the refinery kit finished and set on the layout, wired the last piece of track, ran some trains, and did some decaling. I didn't get to the plywood mill. Oh well, I have to save something for next weekend.
I finished two more lasercut building kits, planted some trees and completely finished ballasting in between the ties of my Unitrack. The entire mainline of Unitrack is completely ballasted between the ties which took about one month to finish. Stay cool and run steam.....
I finally managed to get two sheets of 2" R-Max to my apartment. I know it sounds silly, but it's been a real tragic comedy thing getting this done. Now that I have some 1:87 real estate, tracklaying can begin!
Updated and cleaned up the Grey and Grandure web page: http://www.windingstream.com/rr/grey_and_grandure.htm
Pardon the cross-post! I'm getting there. Spent a lot of time with friends and wife outside this weekend, doing social and maintenance things. Butr I did get to paint the deck. There's lots of touchup still to come, and more details. I've held off on the rigging until most of it was painted. Reminder to self: paint the friggin' decks before adding details on the next ship! ZOOM for full size
Busy weekend here. Family reunion, Girlfriend, work, school. I did get in just enough time to make a run to the hobby store today for some neccesary neccesities
Wow Pat , I wish I had a girlfreind to take my mind off modeling!!! but then the wife probably wouldn't understand. All I did this weekend was ballast!!
Well, I got a large wall constructed and painted. Atleast, the top. Which is painted w/ a white base ready to receive a black background w/ white letters. This is what I got done this weekend.. along w/ airbrushing 5 cars or so, ready for decaling. The picture shows "before" this past weekend and after.
LOL, Andy. My gal knows i'm into trains, but she doesn't know how much Maybe I can get her to do the darnfangled wiring for me
MOdeling time shot all to heck- spent that time sick in bed or in the bathroom. I DID get the guts to strip the shell off my P2K GP7 (was Santa Fe, will be in Frisco black with yellow striping). Lots and lots of little detail parts to remove, but now I've gotta find the time to paint Gloss Black on the shell to add the decals & stripes. Paper mill is almost finished, though.....just a few detail parts, and I've got some ideas to reposition the buildings to fit the space I have better.
I've been busily laying track, installing feeders, and started to install switch machines. Here's a picture of "Dad's Toy Room" for those that have never seen it: Found a problem with Walthers turnouts - they were SHORTED! The frogs were not "cut", and hence the outside and inside rails were shorted together. I cut the frog clear. Any suggestions for filling the gaps? Mark in Utah
Mark, I had the same problem and I just let them open. I guess you could fill them in with styrene. Thats the main reason I quit using Walthers turnouts, they look nice but not what I am needing!
