I need to go to work to recover from this weekend. I had way too much football. I coached in two games and watch parts of 3 other games on Saturday. I had a strong reminder of why they call it the gridiron as the hot sun beat down on us all day. In the first game my son’s team the Drexel Hill Raiders Pee Wee AAA defeated the Claymont Falcons 6-0. In the second game the Raiders Pee Wee AA squad lost to the Falcons 13-0. In the AAA game we had only 11 players son my son played the full game. In the double AA game he played most of the second quarter on the defensive line. He played the fourth quarter both ways at DT and Center. Due to the heat my daughter’s cheerleader squad only cheered for the first half of their game which was OK by us. We got to the field at 8:30 AM and left at 5 PM. As far as modeling I laid a big goose egg again. The only thing that got done was I sealed the three locomotives I weathered last week. I did, however, run some trains.
Well. I got most of my goals accomplished: Got most of the sign work done on the "Dog Treat" factory: Got some billboards built. Here are two of the three I worked on Saturday: Plus, got some decalling done:
I laid more cork. I'm taking it slow and learning tons. Mostly i'm learning that I can build a layout one hour at a time. So now I figure if I can squeeze in an hour every other day, i'll have a layout soon.
A friend of mine wanted me to disguise an old Atlas Rivarossi 0-8-0 to look more like a ATSF engine. These old N scale engines were modeled after some rather unusual Indian Harbor Belt three cylinder switchers that were very husky looking. Turns out Santa Fe had one bulky looking 0-8-0 that it converted from a 2-8-0 that it inherited from the Kansas City Mexico & Orient, number2535.
Managed to paint some clouds onto my backdrop and re-install. Planted two dozen trees and glued down a bunch of foam ground cover and scatted junk. traingeekboy - You're on the right track! Sometimes I get in 10 minutes a day, but I try to make it count. The tortoise won the race, eh? Tad, those look mighty fine!
I finished another lasercut building and added some finish touches to the final ballasting of the Unitrack between the ties. Stay cool and run steam.....
Poured the stream at last, but not too successful with Envirotex. Oh, well! On to the detailing and scenery.
Painted the walls what will have the layout against blue and parts of the ceiling above black. Still need to get a hold of a power drill and start making drops.
While I didn't get any modeling done, I did finally get the lumber for my layout. Since it took my two years to get the lumber, I wonder if it'll take me another two years to actually assemble the benchwork! Wish me luck!
Too much work, and social engagements at night. I got a little bit done on my Active-class Coast Guard Cutter. The tape on the stern says I'm still working on that! ZOOM for full size Ran out of painted railing at just the wrong time! I had hoped to "finish" it this weekend, but then looked at the list of details still missing. J. Widmar's work has inspired me to a greater level of detail, and a greater level of building details myself, so I'm building stuff like life rings and hose reels, rather than just buying them.
I just inherited one of these in IHB. Are these worth using or are they outdated junk? I am really into 080 switchers because they are so chunky. It would be great if I could use it now and then, but i'll take a runner over a looker anyday.
I didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but I got some of the bigger items out of the train room and (gasp!) put away. Sunday was the SCWD Youth Group meeting; I was "volunteered" to present a clinic on operations at a future meet, maybe as early as next month. Just what I need, another project to work on! No, wait, I mean another group of young minds to <s>brainwash</s> educate on the One True Way of operating! Yeah, that's it.
I've finished my trestle: More and big pictures at my site. Happy toooot Wolfgang [ September 21, 2005, 12:22 PM: Message edited by: Wolfgang Dudler ]
Of all the old Atlas-Rivarossi engines, I have found these to be the most consistent "Good" runners. You can still get a dog but on the whole they run OK. Not as well as say a Kato Mikado but not too shabby.
Let's see: Got some more done on the F7B, these detail parts really change an Athearn BB engine into something nice, came to a stall, as the couplers didn't come on Saturday, want to make sure all is well before gluing the parts on. Of course they came today. Just ran some of the new acquisitions, to break them in and find the problems if any, trouble with buying used items. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!-
Got two more switch machines installed. Cut the aluminum plate for my switch panels (5 of them). Wired up and installed two panels. They work!! Installed another switch panel last night. Regulator is getting warm and added another heat sink to it. By the time I add the rest of the switch machines the load on it will more than double. I'll probably also add layout building lighting load to the system (when I scenic it). Within the next few days we'll have the first train running on it! Mark in Utah
