Begginer's question about weathering

    I'm going to try weathering some RTR freight cars I have (mostly Roundhouse Athearn) using the washing technique for the start.

    Do I have to seal first the lettering (factory applied) using e.g. Dullcote or this isn't necessary?

    Not really needed. Just don't soak the cars.

    I started just with my new RS 27. At first I sealed the windows with tape. Then the engine got a spray with Dullcote. Next step will be chalk.

    hey what would be neat is a forum dedicated to weathering, tips, techniques,pictures and other interesting stuff.

    Sealing the surface with DullCote isn't necessary. If you do, you may have some fun with chalks as the DullCote leaves an irregular surface.

    There is tap, but you'd be wanting to watch your head appearing above the parapet! They take no prisoners from what I have read on there. You better be good.... :rolleyes:

    I'm going to expereiment with acrylics wash and pastels....
