Rumor has it that one of the steamers for NRHS in Portland is coming from the north from our Canadian friends. I also hear its supposed to lay over in Seattle on Saturday. Any idea on when it'll be there tomorrow, or even if it is coming tomorrow? ANY INFORMATION IS WELCOME!!!!!!! [IMG] Thanks!!!!

SD70MACMAN, welcome to Trainboard!! Rumors have been rampant for months about the steam participation at the NRHS convention. They are just rumors. It really is unfortunate that some of these things couldn't be made to happen. The CP 2816 will be in Vancouver, BC all during the convention. That was one of the rumors, to run her down to the convention. The other far fetched one was that the Reading T-1 2100? in Ontario would run across Canada and pull some excursions out of Tacoma. I haven't heard of her moving at all. Some folks speculated that Steve Lee of UP steam would bring 844, right out of a complete overhaul, to Portland, where he will be a featured speaker along with Doyle McCormack at the banquet. Don't think so. :(
Now, on the other hand, both Portland locomotives, SP 4449 and SP&S 700 have been steamed up and will be active at the convention. And as Lily Tomlin as "Edith Ann" in her big rocking chair would say, "And that's the TRUTH."

Thanks for the info and welcome fitz! If 844 was going to Portland, Id have to pick up tracks and move my butt to Portland! Itd be worth the 3 hr drive to see that beauty... I have also found some more info for anyone else interested through some of my friends:

6/29 - "It might be of interest to those enroute that a 2100 class 4-8-4 will be departing St. Thomas Ontario going to Portland, Oregon. Details are sketch as to the exact date of departure but is should be soon. To avoid having to remove the side rods, this engine will be under steam, if only to keep the rods automatically lubricated. Currently, it is said this loco will start on CN, and after that it anybody's guess as to the route. If you see it during it's travels, put a note on the site as to where and when. If you get photos you might post these as well. While in St. Thomas this loco was converted to an oil burning engine."

6/29 - "This thing should actually be going to Tacoma, WA. It's slated to run specials on Tacoma Rail all summer long. Of course, it was supposed to start this coming weekend with the Tall Ships festival, but I'm not convinced it will get here in time for that. I'll keep my eye out for it here on the coast, but I'll probably be in Cincinnati when it arrives."

6/30 - "I just talked with a friend in St. Thomas and I was informed that 2100 is still in the St. Thomas shop. It has a new deadline to move. It has to leave St. Thomas by July 15th, without exception."

And go to www.gprr.com for even more info!

According to other sites, the TUT special made it to Dunsmuir just about on time, so this massive project is in motion. Just had to put this photo of one of the real participants on here. Taken three weeks ago at Sherwood.

Progress Report: The TUT ran to McCloud OK, but there they set out bad order the FT or F7 or whatever it is painted in SP Black Widow colors. The WP diesel ran fine. [IMG]
On a few other internet sites, the news has finally leaked that the steam special will indeed be a doubleheader, with 700 leading from Portland to Wishram and 4449 leading from W to P. The Black Widow F was supposed to be the accompanying diesel, now it will be an Amtrak P-42. YIPPEE!! [IMG]
Just imagine the '49 in Daylight colors, and here's what will happen:

Thanks Michael. I have a ticket. Are you going to be at Vancouver as we come off the bridge? I'll be looking for you. We're supposed to spend two hours at Wishram, lunch, and of course swapping the motive power. Heck with lunch, I'll be filming. [IMG]

Michael, nice coverage! It was nice to see you again at the roundhouse, probably the first time we have been there at the same time. For all the naysayers on other forums, we did it, and it was wonderful. I think I saw you from my view in the vestibule between the St. Paul and Arizona, at Avery, somewhat separated from the 400 other foamers who were there. This was an incredible experience, and I am going to start a new thread to cover it. :D
