Ok guy's for those who get to see the BNSF more than me, a question. I remember MR did a review of the Atlas SD60M, and noted that the BNSF model had a green roof which was not right. I also got a great deal on a Kato snoot SD40-2 in BNSF, it too has a green roof. The unit number is right but the pics of it on Matthews web site show an orange roof. Oh well the pic also shows a nose mounted headlight, oh well I'll just paint up another. Any ways on my last trip to Galesburg I noticed a newly painted SD9 high hood with a green roof I have also seen some other BNSF engines now sporting a green roof. So is this the new trend in the paint shop? Hmmmm, I smell more masking duties in my paint shop
The nose mounted headlight is actually new....when they have been repainting them , they have been moving the headlights down. You got me on the green roofs....All I can find are orange ones.....Let me know what ones have green, you have me interested now! LOL Matthew
The Atlas models were correct, BNSF Heritage 1, usually has green on the flat part of the cab roof, while it is orange on the anled part. The Heritage 2 on the other hand are all orange on the cab roof. So the Atlas were correct, because 9277 (H1) is green/orange, and 9299 (H2) was all orange. There are a few Heritage 1 with all orange cab roofs, but I don't think I have seen any Heritage 2 with green.
Kato painted their SD40-2s with green cab roofs, and they were correct in doing so. They provided decent prototype photos. However, Kato painted their SD40-2s with black fuel tanks, trucks, and snow plow. Go figure? When atlas released their BNSF Heritage II 9299, they advertised it with a green cab roof. Atlas quicky corrected their mistake before they released their model. The SD9s, GP9s, etc also had a green roof. Newer Heritage I units, including the B40-8s, have recieved orange cab roofs. This is probably to decrease the tempeature in the cab. CYA DOWN THE LINE! --Dash
