Greetings all I have just been advised of the imminent arrival in my LHS of my BLI NW2 Phase V undec with sound. I am planning on decorating this in either CN or GTW. (If I can find appropriate photos). I am looking for a couple of good photos to show the positioning of lettering and decals for the 1940/60 period. Also, did any of the NW2's carry the CN livery with the orange semi-circle or flying orange stripes livery?? Apologies in advance for the probably incorrect description of the liveries, but as I am sure you can tell, I am a newbie at anything to do with CN / GTW. My assumption for the standard liveries is Black/Warm Black throughout with a yellow Canadian National / Grand Trunk Western oval Logo, yellow Cab number, possible slanted herald on cabside and twin numbers on rear of cab with a rectangular outline and yellow sills all round. Does this sound about right? Regards
Graham, I don't have any applicable photos in my collection, but here are a few sites that may be of assistance: The Public Archives of Canada has the CN photo collection which dates from 1919 and has 750,000 images. CN photo collection The Public Archives of Canada has an "Images Canada" location on the web. It is a partnership with museums across Canada. I did a quick search on their site using +"Canadian National Railway" and got 993 hits. +"Grand Trunk" gave me 634 hits. Public Archives of Canada - Images Hope this helps. Let us know how your quest turns out.
Don't know if there are any images here that might help but I'm sure you will find this site interesting anyway. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/pierrelacombe
Yes, the units as delivered to the CN in 1941-42 and 1947 wore the Morency orange and black scheme with square emblem on cab sides. GTW unts had large yellow numbers on a black hood with tilted embem on the cab. Later repaints were blank with yellow letterbox high on the hood and slanted emblem on cab. Cheers, Lenny
Greetings all Many thanks for the links and the info. The CN collection is a wonderful resource and has been bookmarked for all future reference Looks like I have a busy weekend next weekend with the spraygun and the decal sheets if I can stop playing trains long enough Regards
