    Jim, Thank you
I am thinking and it is kind of coming to mind that it is # 3793. But I'm not sure.

    Thanks
    Matt

All the 70Ms should be in the 4000 series, I guess that narroes it down to only a hundred possbilities. The flared radiators narrow it down further, but you're still looking at maybe 60 possible numbers.

The numbers run from 3874-5126 so that leaves out 3793.

OK. I am going to take a big guess here. First off it is still real clean. I checked May deliveries, none ended in 3. With an April check we have UP 3923 so that would be my guess.

    Thanks Jim,
I was wondering what websites you get all of this information from? Maybe when I get my new train site up and running I can put a section of links on it for "prototype research." Also, I was wondering if there was an easy way to see what kind of locomotive it would be by looking at a description and looking at a picture of a locomotive? For example you knew that this loco was an SD-70M.

    Thanks
    Matt

Doesn't it tweek you that the UP can take a United States Highways Symbol, add United States Flag Stripes and Colors, and then copyright the combination and try to charge anyone else an unreasonable licensing fee that has an outragous accounting clause and surrendering of manufacturing equipment clause, to continue painting models in that scheme after letting people do it for many decades without saying a word? First off I believe the Union Pacific Shield has been around longer than the US Highway Symbol. Also I don't believe the US Highway Symbol was copyrighted.

As for UP charging a fee, I remember reading an article in either Model Railroader or Trains about their copyright fee. Union Pacific stated it just wanted to keep control so their symbol would be shown in a positive light. For most model manufacturers and model decal manufacturers, Union Pacific stated that the fee would be minimal or waived, but it would be decided on a case by case basis.

It is not corporate greed but corporate protection. Look what NS had to do with their horse symbol.

I would have to agree with esprrfan because that does not really look like the US highway logo.

THe SD70M was easy. It is the only one with that type of radiator flairs.

That shield design goes way back before this country was even around. It comes from at least the English Heraldry and perhaps even further back. Perhaps a surviving descendant of one of the Germanic tribes from the late Roman era should sue the UP for copyright infingement!
