When up grading to metal www.reboxx.com makes over 40 different axle lenghts in both 33" & 36" single & double wheel insulated sets in 0.088 tread. Not all model car manufacturers use the same truck manufacturers thus variations in journal bore dimensions. Replacements by P2K, IM, KD etc vary in axle length. Reboxx recognized these inconsistencies and set out to solve them. So when considering up grades stop off at the site. Also note on their charts the increased roll test performance #s over the stock set.
Looks like a comprehensive range, also very good information on which item to use for individual models.
Sure is nice to have that option for all those axle lengths. (Lamenting that such is not available in N scale.) Also, that item that cleans out the journal boxes would be something I would buy in N scale. I have used it in HO scale and it is excellent!
I was bored and yanked my Athearn 72' talgo three axle truck passenger cars out of retirement. What the heck. Nothing to lose since I run 14 Budds. WOW! I was impressed. Perfect fit and a great roll. My biggest blunder 3 1/2 years ago was replacing my Budds with the pricey IM BB's. That negated my lighting sysytem since the stock was two wheel insulated and the IM's were one wheel insulated. Back then, I never hear of/saw the Reboxx name. Here's an interesting observation. IM (non-BB) has almost the identical packaging, pricing, printed langauge and 0.088 wheel tread as Reboxx but only one size axle.
Those Reboxx wheels look very close to proper scale size- I have a few wheelsets on some of my freight cars. Just the addition of Reboxx wheels and Kadee number 58s do wonders to the look, as well as the performance.
I've heard the Reboxx makes the wheels for Intermountain. If the IM wheels fit right, then you're in good shape. If not, spend the extra for the Reboxx. Mark in Utah
I too have heard the same comment but reluctant to repeat it. I prefer to say,"same manufacturer and both are made in China according to the packaging". The IM's measure 1.013. Reboxx eliminates the guess work unless you want to but a digital caliper. Reboxx charges $10.00 for 12 axles, approx the same as IM. Reboxx is not a listed vendor in the Walthers' and and my LHS doesn't stock Reboxx. The forum allows modelers another choice. [ August 26, 2005, 06:01 AM: Message edited by: locomotive2 ]
