I could sure use some advice on how some of you would construct a two level peninsula.
My new HO layout is basically an around-the-walls system. I want a peninsula which will measure approximately 7' long and 4'9" wide.
The plan will have track and structures on the top level with a lower level having one track forming a 26" radius.
I need advice as to how to support the peninsula AND have the lower level track.
Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

I presume that the backboard on the penisula will not go to the ceiling? So it will not be like a wall layout? Will you be able to see over the backboard? Will you be able to see over the upper level? How much spacing between levels?

I am sure some of these layout design guys have some ideas! [IMG]

Look at new issue of Model Railroader. the article on Hediger's Ohio Southern shows a diagram that he uses for a double decker peninsula involving an X configuration

Does Hediger have a new layout? Or is the this the same one he's been working on since the early 1980's?

If your peninsula bask a backdrop, it's easy to use it as the main support. If it's an open peninsula, I'd support the bottom with a leg, and suspend the top from the ceiling with a couple of strategically placed pieces of all-thread.

A an alternative, I'd us a couple 4x4 posts going up from the floor through the center of the lower level (thin backdrop to cover them) and "T"d into the cross braces of the top level with a 4x2. This should be abundantly strong to hold up 'normal' grid style benchwork above it.
