Hmm, as the first voter I'll have to come back but it is no secret that:
    1) Still thinking about it
    2) Construction phase
    3) Track work some scenic and wireing

The JJJ&E is 80% finished. In the next few months all the scenery will be finished.

That just leaves fine detailing which can go on continuously as you upgrade the detailing with new ideas and products.

I have no plans to build another layout.

The JJJ&E has been fully operational for almost six years now.

It isn't a large layout compared to others but it's very challenging to run every day.

I do run trains on the JJJ&E at least one hour per day and sometimes longer.

That way I don't have problems with equipment or track.

Stay cool and run steam..... [IMG]

Maybe 30% of the trackwork/wiring done.
    Zero scenery as yet.
1 year from now I would imagine the track/wiring completed and shiny. The basic terra-forming completed, and "things" starting to appear regularly.

Polls are strange, they never cover the whole spectrum of issues.

I'm doing two layouts right now. One is exactly where it needs to be. The other needs to have the track laid and i'll be happy with it. I'm not too worried about scenery as it is my easiest task. I'll just lay down maybe a Sq. ft of ground cover every other week till it gets done.

We didn't had the time to start a layout in the past few months since we weren't knowing if we were moving or not. If not, we could have a 7' by 15' room (not large enought for me). Finally, we did take the right decision of not starting one because we moved. The room at my father's house is a 13' by 15' one in the basement.

We are still planning our layout and I made some doodling and came with an idea that please me. Hopefully, we could have tracks laid in one year if we have a track plan pretty soon.

I agree with Traingeekboy--the option choices do not tell the story. If you look at my answers it would seem that nothing changed between a year ago and now.

In reality, I built a new end loop, with 4 hand laid turnouts, revised a 3 foot section of the layout, with 3 new hand laid turnouts. Both of these involved mostly completed sections of layout. I also took the DCC plunge, and have rewired 2/3 of the layout, removing a large control panel.

As to where the layout will be in a year, it depends on if I continue to enjoy the current track plan, or not. A 1x8 extension is planned which will include a yard that hopefully will work for both staging and some switching, but that is still in conceptual stages.

DCC decoders are also being added to locos as funds are available. Several of these will be hard wired installs involving frame mods, which will likely take time.

In terms of the actual layout, it may not be much more "done" now than a year ago, but that is not my goal, nor philosophy. The journey is much more enjoyable to me than a "complete" railroad is. The fact my railroad may never be done is fine with me.

I make so many pictures, the date gives me my history. [IMG]

One year ago I was busy with Apu Nahasapeemapetilon's "Kwik-E-Mart".
Now, all track at Plywood District is laid and I'm busy with scenery.

Next year I hope to have done most of the scenery at Plywood District.
I'm going to build my main town Westport new. More suitable for my operation. Then, there's bare plywood again.

Last year at this time, were probably 50% finished with the first go-round of scenery. This year we are probably at 85%. Now this is only the first go-round. Next year--well, it's hard to tell, because we work in spurts. We'll easilty be at 100% the first level of scenery.

In terms of moving stuff like engines, I was probably at about 15% last year, and 25% this year with the conversion to DCC. Next year I'll probably be at about 40%. Some of that's because I'm buying DCC-ready engines.

Layout started in March. Benchwork is all done 48 inches high, 2x3 frame, 1/2 ply top with 1-4 layers of 1/2 inch pink foam. Room size is 10x12 with a 1 foot by 15 foot branch line outside in the main playroom. Track is Unitrack and its all in place, except for 1 more switch I need to buy (#50). I am now painting track and learning how to solder feeders since I need 150+ drops. I've just got a box of 500 905 suitcases and my first trials have gone well. I'm using DCC and 4 of 17 locomotives are decodered with an additional SW1200 disassembled due to ongoing difficulties. All but 1 of the 40 buildings are purchased and propped in place, but not yet constructed. 10 DS52s have been acquired and I'm starting to play with them as well.

1 year from now. electrical done and track painted. Some buildings in place and lighted. All engines decodered. MP pacific TT retrofitted. Some scenery started.

This time last year I was working on a completely different layout that I have since demolished. So I have to agree with Traingeekboy that the poll doesn't cover all possibilities.

I began my present layout in November last year and at the present time all the track is down and the scenic layers are being modelled.

Next year at this time I hope to have finished the basic scenery and be fine detailing the layout. Also I hope to have some better signal opperation, maybe a better DCC controller

I get to work on two layouts at one time.
The biggest layout is at the NWILMR Railroad club I belong to is working on the scenery. I am learning from the club members then try to build a small layout at home. My home layout has track down and mostly wired. The home lay out is more finance strapped so it goes a lot slower. Put then it is a hobby.

My prior 15 1/2 X 17 1/2 n scale pike was in the 25 to 50% category when I dismantled it a few months ago. I've just moved due to a life circumstance change and have a much smaller space to work with. Still wrapping up the trackplan, although I do have the first of the shelf benchwork in place for the lower level.

    Progress.

A year ago, I wasn't even interested in having a layout. Interested in travelling on trains, yes, but a layout, no.

Around Dec., 2006, I got interested in having one of my own. Now, 6 months later, I have, in n scale, a door layout with about half of the scenery done, and will be starting the addition of a second door to make an L-shape within a month.

Thank God (or whomever you prefer) for Trainboard!!!!

This time last year I decided it was time to realize childhood dream and build a layout of my own. I started a 5'x9' layout and got to 50 percent complete. At this point I decided that I wasn't happy with it at all. I am now in the process of starting one much bigger and totally different.

    Hi Everyone!!! :teeth:

I'm a 'newcomer' to model railroading (and my 1st post, too). I've been lurking here for the several months gaining valuable knowledge from all the members here at trainboard.com

    1) a year ago, I wasn't interested in model railroading  but the gentle nugge of a good freind, I took a leap in September 2006.

    2) I'm 15% complete. benchwork complete, 4x8 table tob style, and foam risers installed. (I am using a modified version of Kirk Holmes' North Burlington Division track plan featured in N-Scale Railroading Mar/Apr 2004). I know how most of the members here feel about 4x8's but I'm a renter and can't put holes in the owners walls! It's a start.

    3) Next year, I hope to have all the track laid, DCC setup selected, Decoders installed, and have started on the scenery!
