So I've decided that, before the full setup of my city, that it would be a shoreside city. With that in mind, I need boats. And not the run-of-the-mill tugs or sailboats and the like. I need big freight boats. BIG. Any suggestions?
wow... after seeing a few of these prices, I'd like to mention that I'd like to keep the price below $500 if possible
Welcome to Trainboard! There are several threads on big ships at TB. If you have some experience, that would be the way to go to hold down costs. I would say that buying such ships already built is out of the question. If you are building HO scale, it is really going to take a lot of room. I have seen models done effectively that only have the bow or stern; it emphasises the size of the ship. http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/006659.html?#000008 http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/006624.html?#000006 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/007075.html#000003 [ November 26, 2005, 08:00 AM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
I'm alright on a lot of room. These things, I've found, can be as long as five feet. btw, I'm also not looking for a rail car carrier. Really what I'm kind of needing is a bin container.

Hiya Shortliner! I'm still experimenting with a way to get a smooth finish on the foam. I am VERY happy with the shape I got out of it, and I'm confident I will find something to seal it that is sandable and paintable. Durhams is out...didn't like it. Gonna try some of that ultralight spackle, cant recall the name. Anyway the reason I went this route is that its almost impossible to find anything of use in 1/48 or close. I found some old 14th century sailing ships in 1/50, but I thought they would kind of clash with the climaxes and shays...
Matth Try : http://www.scaleshipyard.com/ They make an extensive line of ship hulls, complete kits, detail parts and fittings in 1/96th, 1/48th and 1/32nd scales. Although primarily warships from WW II to present, the auxiliaries include sea going tugs, a liberty ship, a C-2 cargo ship and a T-2 tanker. For the ships, I hope you have at least 60" available for a 1/96th scale vessel. Tom
