Can anyone point me to an online resource of what cars made up the old Auto-Train? Just about everything out there is about the domes, and I have plenty of info on those, but I'm interested in the other passenger car types that made up the 70's era Auto-Train... Anyone???

    Thanks! -Mike

When the Auto Train started in 1971 or 1972, all the train consisted of 2 U36B's built to SCL Specifications on each consist with a spare for Maintenance rotations, numbered 4000 to 4004. Train ran intially with the enclosed Auto Carriers on the head. All the coaches were Dome Coaches from UP and WP and Full Dome Coaches from ATSF. Twin-Unit Diners from SCL, Sleepers from RF&P and ATSF and Dome Sleepers from UP. In later years the Train ran with Passenger Cars on the head and Auto Carriers on the rear-for Train Handling Reasons.

the original autotrain was white with a red stripe? yes?

I only have travelled on it once (before smoking was forbidden and before I stopped smoking)

was a lot of fun sitting in the bar car drinking, smoking and having a good time with the others there doing the same thing
