Hey guys, I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Im at the Safety department at VIA Rail Canada and am building a trespasser / Grade Crossing Accident file. I was hoping that if any of you had any pictures of train / vehicle or trespasser incidents, you could email them to me. I would appreciate this alot as it will help build a file quickly and use railroads all across northamerica. My email address is Bannon_C_Woods@viarail.ca Thanks again Bannon ------------------ Bannon C Woods Jr VIA Rail Canada Safety, Health & Environment

here are a couple pics of a farm fertilizer truck that the driver thought that parking on the tracks while unloading was ok. unfortunatley she was in the cab when a ns triple crown came through at 60 mph. i was on the train that was right behind the crown. now her family is suing the rr saying they need crossing gates, not just signs, but you know it all comes down to stop look and listen and dont park on the stinkin tracks, duh! www.geocities.com/sabrinastringham/crosstruck.jpg www.geocities.com/sabrinastringham/truck.jpg ------------------ fly with route of the eagles.rock n roll all night and railroad everyday!
Thanks guys for helpin' me out. To me, grade crossings and trespassers are a touchy topic. I'm always trying to think of new ways to help solve the problem. Hey, if you have any ideas, dont be afriad to spit them out! Bannon
well this may not be cost efficient but place a camera at every crossing and photo every car that crosses after the lights are activated. then once a week or even month download them and start sending tickets out and send a photo along to prove guilt. we have cameras on some of our new dash 9's on the ns that can be downloaded into a pc to get accidents when they occur to take the guilt away from us. in the states running crossing gates and lights carries a $500 fine and these also need to be made where they are not pleable to a lesser offense. also the police need to be ticketed the same as citizens since i see more cops than ordinary people run gates, they must become examples too. and for those wondering no they don't have lights or sirens on when they do it. ------------------ fly with route of the eagles.rock n roll all night and railroad everyday!
I agree to your comment 100% but if you look at it the side that I'm on... VIA RailCanada's Quebec City - Windsor Corridor 1000 (approx.) grade crossings between these two cities. Try and convince Canadian National Railways to put camera's on at least half of those. And thats only a short run in Canada. I believe that if they followed up wiht this, the tickets would pay for the camera's, but management dont think so.
