Just thought I would let everyone see what I have been doing over the last couple of moths. I recently made the switch from N scale to HO. I joined a HO moduler group that has a show in a couple of days so I have been working a couple of new modules. The modules are built with 1”X6” lumber and are 6’ long with a ½ plywood top put on them. The tracks are recessed 3” and 5” from the front at the ends. The first picture is looking down the main after track and the basic scenery was laid down. This is a shot of the hills when they were just roughed in. Are the modules made to any particular standard, or just something your individual club came up with?
The Modules are roughly based on the NMRA standards. The main layout has three tracks the centers are 3, 5, and 7" in off the front. I was allowed to only have two tracks as both of my modules form one full end of the layout. Here is a new picture of module two with the ballast in place. This is the one structure on the two modules.
looks good so far. I am just starting module to earn the Golden Spike Awrd in the NMRA. My friend and myself built the frame and table top of ours today. We just used 1x2's for the frame and the material that pegboard is made from, with out the hole version for the top covered by 1/2 inch pink foam board. That way they are light weight and easy to transport. All of mine track, structures and tress will be recyled to my future shelf layout. Could not build part of it for this project because of the switch locations. The plan is the same for my buddy. When that is a show that we want to go to, we can transplant the structures and trees to the small module if we leave the track on it. kinda like having 2 seperate layouts.
They look good to me! Curious about one thing- did you intend to have one track with concrete ties and one track without, or was the hobby shop out of regular flaxtrack (no concrete)? Not a nitpick at all, 'cause it looks like the RR is in the midst of a tie replacement program, and that one track is what they have so far. Feel free to post more picks as you go along!!
Hey Friscobob you nailed it. That was the exact look I was going for I plan on having a siding on a future module with a train with concrete ties sitting on it. I will post more pictures later this week. We have a show this weekend and I will take several pictures with the trains running across the modules. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments.
Hi Michael! Those pictures are awesome, I love the amount of detail in them. The last picture with the Santa Fe is very cool, the detail on the loco is absolutely amazing as well!
Well we had our first train show and while the lighting was not good I did manage to get one ok picture out of the deal. This is a shot of my stack train snaking it's way across the modules. Thanks, Mike
howdy- just a note - while travling in new mexico 1-10 just past deming west bound while going over a set of tracks saw that the r.r. had done the same thing you did two sets of tracks 1 with cement ties and and 1 with wood - if you ever need a reel life example there it is-- rudetrain
