I live near the CSX Hudson river west shore line its a strickly freight line anyway I heard a train whistle that sounded differant than the usaul so I just had to see this train go by and to my surprise it was a very clean, highly waxed Olive Drab Green passenger train (the engine was not at all like freight engines it was streamlined) with matching passenger cars. Anyone know what it was? I assumed it was the company top brass out for some special event it was by no means a work train or common passenger train.. Wish I had a pic ,but it was spur of the moment....

"Business train" something you've seen or heard of before? Do you have a picture link? Ive lived by this track for 30 years and have never seen anything but freight trains and track crews, this was an unusaul sight especially for a guy who has never seen a passenger train up close...

Yes. It does. I had no idea that it still might exist. Seems like something that would have been disposed of long ago?

I doubt it was the CONRAIL busines train....weren't the E units sold off to a tourist line? They aren't on CSX's roster.

CSX's busniess train is blue and stainless steel with two F40's, so we can eliminate that possibility.

I'd forgotten about this operation. I wonder if they have a web site? If so, maybe it would give us an itinerary. And we'd know if this train was theirs?

    American Orient Express

Maybe that was it, but I think the cars tend to be blue in paint scheme. The website has a few pictures, so you'll probably recognize it or not.

As for motive power, I saw it pass through Sacramento a couple years ago and a couple of Amtrak Genesis were pulling it. I'm not sure what they usually use.

One of the American Orient Express excursions at the moment is the Quebec - New England fall folliage run.

Well, it obviously was not an AOE train. Sure still sounds like the old Conrail business train. Wonder what is was? [IMG] The mystery deepens?

Diffenitly not the AOE as I have been searching for pics and it was not at all like that train. I am by no means a knowledgeable person on engines so the best discription I can give is the that it looked just like the engine that Superman stopped back in the original show of the 50s. I know that sounds rediculious but maybe you get the image of what I saw....

Confirmed it was the Conrail business train, I searched around and found a pic at www.nvatrak.org/events/strasburg_1998.php.. A pretty cool sight to see especialy on a track that has always been just freight , the only other nonfreight train I ve seen on that track was the one and only circus train which came thru last year I can't remember the circus name but they do have a web site as I checked it out after I saw that train.....
