Hiya all. I've been having some probs with the game. I've downloaded some locos and cars from train-sim.com, but after I pulled some off the net last night now today nothing starts up. I keep getting SEND ERROR REPORT messages and it shuts down. That happens after I close down 6 "error, continue?" boxes that say there was an error reading files "...csxcoal/csxcoal.wag" (for example). This it says it for some .eng files too. WHATS GOING ON! Maybe I havent given enough details for help here, but I WILL call microsoft and chew on their butts for a while...even if it is something I did! Even after I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, it still happens! btw now a computer store near me is selling the sim for $29.99! Too bad I couldnt wait until now.

First off don't call MS. It is something you did. You already tried the delete and reinstall. You did not get all of it deleted. It takes a while.

    Start
    Programs
    Microsoft Games
    Train Simulator
    Uninstall

Delete any thing you have down loaded.

    Next:
    Start
    Find
    Files/Folders
    Type in Microsoft Games
Delete all files that say the above

    Next:
    Right click My Computer
    Explore
    Programs
    Microsoft Games
    Delete if found

    Next:
    Start
    Programs
    Microsoft Games
    Delete

    Reboot
    Do a clean install

    Next:
Real all instructions that come with add-ons
Read the section on Train-sim on add-ons

Been there, done that five times. Even had to reload Win98 once. Really had everything messed :D .

I think to clarify the problem for you, it wasn't in your MSTS install. It was in one, some or all of the new equipment you installed.

It sounds as if consists have been installed which reference files (.eng or .wag) that are not being found. If you don't desire to totally reinstall through Jim's above description, you can got through zip files for the equipment you installed and see what .con files were installed and delete those. Then try to run MSTS and see if you still get the problems.

If you are fairly new to MSTS I would suggest just deleting everything and starting over as described in Jim's comments above. Then I would suggest that you start MSTS after each piece of equipment is installed in order to locate the defective files and save yourself a lot of work down the road.

A program that is available on train-sim.com and which is really helpful for these types of problems is ConBuilder. It will check all of your files; .con, .eng, .wag and .sd and let you know where you have problems and whether or not they are fatal errors or not.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, guys! I got the Conbuilder now and everything works great, but I got to build up my fleet of lost seeds and geeps that I've lost. Thats alright though, trains are always fun to deal with...unless its freezing rain and you gotta walk back 50 carlengths to the pulled coupler knuckle b/c of the damn rookie engineer at the stand! Glad you got it working Dave. I had forgotten about ConBuilder. Just remember to open in WordPad and BACKUP.
