With a major snow storm pending I fired up the old Jeep and trekked out to the show. And was the place crowded! Got to the point at some times you couldn't move even with the wide aisles and nice setup. Also visited the layouts in the other hall. This one is for you Pete. [IMG]

Talked to the Bmann folks for awhile, seems like thier major emphasis at the show was on HO and larger. Their table.

Only N scale was tucked in a corner in the back. However this did get my attention.

HO scale rail truck. Asked when they were going to do something like that in N. Thought that I had tipped over their table when I dropped that. Then thier large scale loco, jumped the track in the back and almost made the floor. They produce a fine line of narrow gauge and other stuff in larger scales but seemed to be of the belief that nobody in N modeled that stuff until I dropped some photos on them. Just might have got thier attention that there are more than toy trainset folks in N scale.

Great N scale layout. And a nice Nn3 layout both big. [IMG]

Master Model Railroader Noll Horan's Nn3 module in the Nn3 layout. A very nice gentleman that is always available to help you, and just happens to work at my LHS.

Shot of the Ntrak layout with a couple of scale miles of track stretching out here. [IMG]

Another shot of one of the Nn3 modules here. [IMG]

And okay here I commit hearesy again. This is HO. [IMG]
However before the lynch party forms check out the flatcar loads.

Managed to leave with 3 MT cars and 3 Atlas cars for a total of $20. All with MT couplers of course.
Found a GP-9 torpedo tube in the right phase for SP&S and its already in the stripper. Also picked up another doodlebug to complete my project.

As usual buyer beware. A number of overpriced items at some venders. Same doodlebugs I'm buying for about $25 were priced at $60 at another table. Same for the GP units. I found mine for about $20 cheaper than some of the tables had them. Overall though a good show just finally got too crowded and I retreated to the other hall and the layouts.

    Boxies-

Athearn will be re-issuing the 1880s mogul and the fifty foot wood passenger cars later this year, but no undecorateds. You will have to strip them. I have found that ninety one per-cent alcohol works well on the MDCs. I have also used an eraser successfully on the cars that come in Tuscan Red or Pullman Green and have gold lettering.

The Athearn guy could not say much about the schemes on the fifty foot cars, but I suspect that they will be similar to the ones on the thirty-four foot cars. He seemed to hint that they were going to concentrate on the same six roads for the N scale nineteenth century equipment. Those roads are:

    B&O
    Southern
    Pennsylvania
    Rio Grande
    Santa Fe
    Virginia and Truckee

The new 2-8-0 schemes appear to be the late 1890s/early twentieth century schemes. The Athearn representative did hint that even they were not sure that the schemes that they used on their first runs of the 2-8-0s were accurate, but that they did look nice. He hinted that there miught have been more research put into these next runs.

    John-

Thanks for the report and photos! Although crowded, to me this sounds good. A high interest level in model railroading!

    Broke:

Thank you for asking the Athearn reps for me! It is good news in my opinion. Good to hear that the Moguls will be available again and I look forward to see how the Overlands come out.

    Thanks again,

    Bill
