Kato's new GE P42 was reviewed in the latest issue of Model Railroader. Uh, Wow! They hit the bull's eye with this one. To be honest, at first glance of the picture, I thought the model was in HO scale. The article describes the mold work as "superb", I think you could say that about the entire unit. What I like most is how they did the undercarriage detail. The motor is mounted high in the chassis so you don't have the non prototypical "bulge" with details molded on it to hide the motor. Although I don't model modern day railroads, I may have to get one of these. :D

They are well worth having. I have a pair in Phase III colors and even went out and bought Kato's two sets of Amtrak cars!

all phase IV, extra NEC p42. better than brass IMHO. now just waiting for atlas dash 8 b 40 wide cab comfort (or whatever all those initials mean) to add to the HEP. Just bid on a phase IV coach with LED's powered from the track on ebay.... $40 is high, but EOT's look so cool, especially on a big ol' N-trak setup!!!
It's days like this that I'm SURE I made the right decision to get out of HO.......

now if only mopac could finish my NS gp60's (just kidding mitch!!!-- I dropped 12 lokeys on him last month to paint in thoroughbread-- poor guy is gonna have black boogers for a good 3 weeks!!!!)

To qoute an old beer commercial... "Guys, it just don't get any better than this...."

    Keep oN trackiN'......

Hey guys, long time no see. My old name BNSF7173 got wiped out so here I am again as MEC563, or Jim to some you. My loving wife picked up the two engine set and both the A and B set of Superlines in phase IV paint. Since my wife and I run modern BNSF, I told her a year ago after Kato stated they would make these that we needed them. She was good enough to get me the whole set, and boy are they nice. The paint is very sharp, and the detail is some of the best I have seen in N scale. I ran them the other night and was pleased with the performance. I brought them into work to show the other train guys, and they were surprised how much detail there was. I hope to bring them down to Galesburg in a few weeks and run em on the Bloomington modules.

    Jim,
Welcome back you are lucky to have a wife involved in the hubby especially one who goes and buys the full set of superliners.

I have a NEC P42 and a phase iv set A, I am currently looking at ordering a B set to go with it. As you stated the detail is excellent and they run so well.

I look forward to running both sets behind the P42

Yes your right, sometimes I can't believe that Tina loves this hobby as much as I do, thats why trains shows are so dangerous! She also collects O, so she has a bunch MTH, Lionel, K-Line, and Weaver that she has collected over the years. The P-42's were kind of her thankyou for the Lionel BNSF Dash9 and Caboose this past winter. The only thing we don't see eye to eye on is what my layout will be... Maine Central circa 1975, or modern day BNSF. I think shes winning.

They need VIA, Amtk phase 5i and 5ii... but it is a very nice model. The detail with the P42 and SD9043MAC is a lot better, just what Kato needs as they were really falling behind Atlas. I hope they keep it up with their next orignal release.
