OK, so now that we know which was the greatest motive power ever , what was the best Santa Fe paint scheme? I say the mid-50s war bonnet and (no accounting for taste) I really like the Zebras!! Look forward to hearing from you all! John
The late zebra as per the repainted RSD15's and SD24's with full size silver Cooper Black letters.....too cool....
Sorry, I don't like the zebras at all. Give me a blue and white, or red and silver warbonnet any day Actually, Zebras can look cool (Taken during our Kenyan Safari)
Definitely the red and silver warbonnet as it appeared on the late F3's and F7's (short warbonnet, stainless steel sides, Indian heads, small black lettering...). Dwight
If the red & silver warbonnet scheme (from any era) is not THE most popular paint scheme EVER why has it been used on so many model trains in any scale? Simply it will sell!
the santa fe " warbonnet " is with out a doubt the most popular and most famous paint scheme ever " hands down " on any " f " or " e " unit !!!! LONG LIVE THE SANTA FE !
Of these two Santa Fe engines, you KNOW I like the paint job on the black one best. The other is for those of you who said you prefer it. Actually, if you gotta be a diesel, that's the best paint job ever.
Hey SantaFeWillie, welcome to the TrainBoard family! Your moniker sure rings a bell, like back around 1949 at a Hobo Camp where we made some old time Slumgullian out in the middle of the world? Maybe Three finger Freddy, Doc Cutter, Buddy Cayce, Watash, Tin Can Jack, Wrecker, and Crack Shot might jog your memory? Those were some crazy days back then! Is that you?
excellent shot , fitz!!! , I will change my vote! to " basic black " I would say more , but its hard to type one handed and saluting that photo!!!! Santa Fe - All the way !!!
My fav would be the yellow and blue war bonnet.... after BN green and black SD40-2's just look right in it
I personally like the blue & yellow adaptation of the Warbonnet scheme, as seen on the freight diesels. Personally, I think the red Warbonnet doesn't belong on freight locomotives, and since Santa Fe operates a lot in the Southwest, where the sun really shines brightly, the Super Fleet diesels are starting to look really shabby. It's a sad fate for such a classic scheme, which looks best on the F units and PAs. My two cents' worth...........
Couldn't agree with you more Bob!! Although I suppose the use of the scheme on freight was better than losing it to history with the demise of SF passenger service. John
The warbonnet scheme in almost any color combination looks the best. How can you pick just one????? There is Red & Silver, Blue & Yellow, Yellow & Silver, Blue & Silver, and Green & Cream (oh, that was BNSF. Sorry. ) Any way you look at it though, the warbonnet is #1!!!!!!!!!
Richard, You got that right!! It is really hard to decide which is best. I say, if its Santa Fe, what could possibly be wrong with it !! John
I've seen pictuers of F units units with a yellow war bonnet. Can any of you Santa Fe people explain this very rare paint scheme. Thanks, John K. [ 28 April 2002, 22:01: Message edited by: John K. ]
