NW N&W units

I didn't get to see a whole lot of N&W units, but did see a few (quite a treat for me )

Here's a shot that shows TWO has beens: N&W and CR:

I'm guessing Norfolk & Western/Norfolk Southern retired these Beautiful High nosed GP30, years ago. I'll take all the high hoods I can get!lol

 

Sad to say, but all of those high hood GP30's are long gone

Those high-hood GP30's look great. But I am prejudiced. Thanks for the memories.

 

Heres a couple from my early days of rail photography. Took this in Argos, IN.

 

Not the best image, but I used an old (zeigler?) camera and had to guess on everything, including focus!

Can you put a year on these pics?
Seems more like late 1960s than late 1970s.

 

Both were 1977 if my memory serves me well, but coulda been as early as 1975 not much sooner. The Lake Div. used RS11's until I left the area in 1980. I was still a young teen then!!!

Another GP38, Looks like i was 13 when i took these Wabash!! Had to guess at the focus with the camera i used.

"Technically" this is an NS unit but its NW all the way down to the numbering, so.............

Nice shot Jonathan, I think that is a hand me down from the IT isnt it? Surprised they use a non-dynamic unit in the mountains.

According to N&W 2nd Generation Diesels by Withers & Bowers, this unit was ordered by the Wabash but wasn't delivered until after the N&W- NKP-Wab merger. Glad you liked the shot Len.

 

OK, i thought they got rid of those before 1989.

 

3-91 is the retirement date on the 1308 as listed in NS Motive Power Review 82-94 by Withers & Bowers. I'm starting to sound like a book salesman.
