I have recently got together with the people in charge of the VNA Adult day program in Colchester vt. The adult day program is a place where senior suffering from mild to severe alzheimer or recuperating from stroke can go and get the medical and nursing support they need. I met with them to discuss an idea for building a layout for these folks after seeing some of them just sitting and staring into blank open space for hours. The administration was very enthusiastic about my volunteering and also at the idea that many of the patient would be able to enjoy such a nice hobby. The adult day program is offering a space large enough to build a modest sized layout built mostly for running train (not a lot of switching or complicated move, some patient have impaired motor skills).

I have gotten in touch with some local organization to get some donnation of equipment and building supplies. Now im trying to open up by asking some of the folks from the forum to donate used equipment.

Right now track and turnout are first priority but electrical supplies (powerpack, switches etc...) are also required. rolling stock will be necessary also. they are a good way for many of the older gentleman to get their fingers working again and it should help tremendously with their spirits. Obviously not everybody can or want to donnate, I understand that. Just be sure though that whatever you can contribute will be used not only to build a layout but also to make some often forgetten folk life a little less grim.

if you would please email me rancheroemail@yahoo.com il lget back to you as quickly as i can. If you have unusually large amount of stuff to ship, i might be able to help you with shipping. If anyone has question in regard into if this is legit or not, you can contact me and i will give you contact number from the folks at the VNA adult day program in colchester vt.

Thank you for reading thru this. I hope i hear back from some of you guys.

This is an excellent idea, and has worked OK. You will need occasional supervision and repairs.

I have email you. Do keep in touch, and post photos here for us to enjoy as you go along, and especially post some of the residents watching or running trains. Photos are great to post at the Home, as well as to send to relatives.

If any of the residents have questions, or can tell old stories, we will help and would certainly enjoy reading their tales from the past of riding or running the old steam trains. :D

UpLoad your Photos to Railimages Here on TB.

    Hey Ranchero,

As I understand, Yahoo does not allow you to upload photos stored there to be uploaded onto other sites, unless that site is affiliated with Yahoo. It is because they sell copies of your photos to the public. When I asked how much of those sales would be sent to me, they said, "None". I removed ALL of my photos I had originally uploaded there.

If you have a folder on your desk top that has your photos in it,
then you can upload your photos directly into "Railimages" here on TrainBoard.
Look for this icon at very bottom of this page. It is the 4th from the left.

Pick a "Category" the photo would best fit in, then click on "UpLoad Photo".
The first photo you upload, automatically opens an Album in your TrainBoard name (Ranchero) and places the photo in the "Category" chosen, and also in your "Personal Album".

Track Plans might go in the "Layout" Category, see? You have several choices. Always pick a Category FIRST.

I would be willing to supply and build a couple of structures. You can see my work here:

If I have a timetable as to when you are wanting this complete I can figure out what I could do. At least maybe a passenger station and some sort of business. Let me know the timeframe and I will see if I will have time to do a few.
