I started mine a few months ago, but not much process yet. I have about 10 flatcars worth of armor that I plan to load, so this is just a sneak preview... [IMG]

Front of Train (pulled by "Stand-In" NP W3)

    First Car (tiedowns still missing)

    Sherman Tank
    [IMG]

Another Sherman (eventually I will have 4 Shermans loaded. The Models are from a Japanese Company, the are actually "Fireflight" Tanks)

Rear of Train, winding up the Pass to Lester
(Troop cars are not weatherd yet. It appears that most equipment trains had very limited or no sleepers, so I plan to use only 2)

    Thanks for watching!

    Cheers

    SirTanley,

well spotted, though the picture is definitively too dark. ohboy: It is indeed a M4 High Speed Tractor and a Long Tom . [IMG]
I saw pictures of that combination and I liked it so much that I needed to add it to my train. Now I just need to figure the tiedowns for the gun.

Thanks for the cudos, I will post pictures when the next cars are ready.

    Cheers
    Dirk

As long as your modeller's license is current I'll let you off for using Sherman Fireflies though ! ;)

And here's something a bit more current, as seen at the Denver Great Train Expo:

A military move passes a DRGW coal drag.

Further down the train, with the Rio Grande caboose in the near distance.

And the end of the miltary move.

    Dave:

That could be really neat to see, but FWIW mostly I've seen mine plows shipped separately on flatbed trucks. This mostly has to do with the plow not being able to clear loading ramps when mounted.

Those are 3 of eventually 10 AC DODX flatcars with modern tanks.

What's a good company that makes fairly nice (but cheap enough) flat cars? I've found some really nice tanks that would just fit N-Scale.

    Thanks, Jon.

    Jon:

Asuming you're talking modern era, the DODX flats are available as kits from Alan Curtis (either his website or from N Scale Supply). The long TTX flats can be made from Alan Curtis kits or ConCor TOFC/COFC (with a bit of work) and the 60' that I have are all scratchbuilt.

Not sure about earlier models, although the Athearn flats may be good for that.

Those cars and tanks look great I could use leopards as well and due a Canadain train but the bleeding heart Liberal Gov't Moth balled all are Tanks last year.

The new Athearn flats are ok but not for tanks . ALan curtis Models make metal ones and they are great. The deluxe sets are nice wish they would due singles and separate loads
