I made a trip up the old Fort Worth & Denver line from Fort Worth to Amarillo this past weekend. Got plenty of cool shots of things old and new. Here's one of the former...

Cool shot!! How far off of US287 is that bridge? I drive between Gallup and Sherman, and use 287 from Amarillo to Henrietta. Also, I wonder if the QAP office is still standing.......

The bridge is not far from 287 at all. If you know where 287 goes over the ROW at "Acme" then you're all set. Just exit like you are trying to go to the Acme (Georgia Pacific) plant and then head toward Quanah and it's basically just past where the chainlink for the GP plant stops. (but on the opposite side of the highway)

The QAP office is still there. I got a picture of it as well.

Excellent! I'm headed back home for my week-off family visit (750 mile commute one way, once a week- kinda cuts into the railfanning on the Gallup Sub, but hey, being back with family's worth it), and I'll make a note to stop in the daytime to shoot both. Where in Quanah is the HQ?

And in my VHS collection is a video by Steve Goen entitled "Ship IT on the FRISCO!" which includes not only the last run on the QA&P, but the scrap train- also features the very bridge you've pictured here.

That really is fantastic to see something like that still standing with that paint intact.

    QA&P HQ

Attached is the latest picture I have of the QAP office. The outside is restored to immaculate condition, and the inside is about 70% restored. (100% better than when I worked there). It is a great museum with lots of QAP stuff donated from former employees. It is located on Mercer street just south of the FWD track.
I was in Quanah late January '09 and noticed the following changes since I worked there: the concrete underpass with q a & p cast in it is gone...it is now an overpass over BNSF; the 4 track yard is in great shape; the QAP tracks going by the HQ and on the way to the old roundhouse are gone; the yard office is now by the wye south of the yard...when I worked there it was at the north wye; the ctc sidings for the FWD are upgraded.

P.S. It was gut wrenching to see nothing but overgrown roadbed from Floydada to Quanah...it's probably hard for young people to imagine that major transcon freights travelled that line, but it is SO wonderful to see the HQ better than I've ever seen it.

Yes,The QA&P HQ Building in Quanah,Texas is alive and well and serving as the Hardemann County Museum.

I've been to Quanah three times in three years:
In 2007 on our way to New Mexico on Vacation,we stopped there and my wife took a pitcure of me next to the Quanah Parker Monument on the Courthouse Square.
2008 I rode the NRHS"Quanah Zephyr"Fan Trip Special to Quanah and back.
Last year we passed through it going to Colorado on Vacation.

Nice little town.Just don't get caught Cattle Rustling there though!!
