Found these two gems last night at WalMart while I was looking for some of the army tanks mentioned in another thread. They don't have a scale listed on the package but look N-Scale enough for me. The detal is pretty nice on them too. Should make some good looking cheap high and wide loads! :shade:
We need more info. Can you post close ups of the vehicles and package? I coulden't find it on e-bay or wal-mart's website.
Okay, will probably be tomorrow for the pics but here's the info I can post. The models are made by Norscot Scale Models - www.norscot.com The CAT 315CL Excavator has a sku of 4986955420 The CAT 906 Wheel Loader has a SKU of 4986955422 These were found at the WalMart in Hiram GA next to the Hot Wheels cars. I did see a dozer but it looked kind of big. Am going back for some more this week. Will have to see what other models they have. Oh, and Kel, thanks for noticing the utility beds. Great product. They make any RR or Construction site look tons better!
According to their website, the smallest scale they make is HO, so these are technically too big for N. However, if they fit on a flat car, I doubt too many folks have ever sat these two types of vehicles together.
The backhoe looks perfectly sized next to the pick-up truck. I have seen that same equipment in real life in many different sizes- small medium and large. All depends on the size of the construction site! Russ
We just got a ton of the Norscot models in our shop last week, but I didn't see anything that small. They were all HO and I think 1/48 scale. I'm going to have to dig deeper through the pile now. The HO stuff does look very good.
I looked at the website and I don't see these models listed. These models are definately smaller than HO scale as a HO scale figure would be bigger that the operators cab on the two items that I picked up. As promised, I will get some better pics tonight and get them posted tomorrow including the packaging.
I'm assuming this under construction page is where the other models will eventually be - http://www.norscotmall.com/html/nzg/index.html - assuming nzg = N, Z and G scale. The last 5 digits of the SKU number seem to be in line with Norscots 55xxx numbering. Now if only there was a Wal-Mart here in Oz....
Well, after seeing BNSF Fan's pictures I went down the road to the local Walmart (not Super Center) and they neither have the CAT machines nor the army tanks he was looking for. Since I was already in the car I drove 20 miles into NY and went to a Walmart Super Center. Didn't see any CAT machines but did find the army tanks. Here's the packaging: Here it is next to a 50' box car: Not bad for $1.97. Pretty good details. Scale is 1:144 so it's close to N but not exact. Wonder if the CAT machines are also 1:144. I picked up a Sherman M4 just for fun. They also have the M18 Hellcat. The rest were WWII German; King Tiger, Panzer, Panther, etc. No M1 Abrams. I pass another Super Center along the way to work so I'll stop by on the way home and see if they have the CATs. Hey BNSF Fan, want to trade CAT machines for some army tanks??
Thanks for the heads up Richard! I just got back from Wal Mart with the family. I picked up the front end loader, trackhoe, and a backhoe. I looked at the dozer and agree that it is a little too big. You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I said " Honey we need to go to the toy isle". Once she saw what I was looking at it all started to make since. Ben
Cooooollllll.... This is what the real one looks like. I think these were first out in the late 1990's to present. Unfortunately too new for me... but... if there was something similar in the 1960's I'd gladly pretend it was a 1960's version.
The advertised scale on these kind of things, rarely seem to be correct. I was doing a little comparison of some of the Model Power Postage Stamp diecast aircraft in our shop the other day. They are advertise on the box as 1:100 scale. The C-47 was exactly the same size as a 1:144 scale plastic kit. Could have used the same mold to make them. Model Powers website is a little more careful and states the scales may vary depending on the plane but the instore boxes say 1:100. Edit: Corrected scales, had them wrong from memory.
Pick up a pair of the 315C's. The others looked a little big to me. The scale rule shows these to be 9' wide, 13' long body, 28' long overall and 11' high. Not bad for under $2. Now I just need the OTTX flats for them... Kel

Here's the thread BNSF FAN was talking about: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=57425
Since CAT makes equipment in a large variety of sizes they can always be used to represent a larger model. A few years ago Hot Wheels did some CAT "micros" that work pretty well too.
