Hi All, I did a search but didn't come up with what I was looking for so I'll ask here. Has anyone else experienced a difference in the tractive capabilities between the newly released Kato SD40-2 and the older releases of the same model? The N scale "bug" bit my younger brother recently and he decided to join our local club and start his own collection of locos and rolling stock. He received his first loco this week which is a new release Kato SD40-2 in the CN/IC paint scheme. This little jewel runs flawlessly. Our layout has 1.6% grades and one short section with a 2%. It's not at all a problem just an observation. I have three of the older releases and any one of them will pull a thirty+ car mixed freight up any of the grades with ease while the new one will pull a twenty car train up the 1.6% but spins out on the 2%. Any thoughts? Break in? Thanks
give the new units a few hours runtime. tractive effort will increase once the wheels are a bit worn.
Sandro, Thanks for the info. learning something new everyday. Last week was a week of "firsts". First pieces of rolling stock, first loco... I think "bug" is an understatement! Tom
