Sorry. I'm no help there. For some reason ER or Kadar or whoever painted these engines decided to "dress them up" with silver grills. I have seen them with aluminum window frames but never with silver colored grill work.
The grills on my units don't look too bad - I think all they need is a little "wash" of thinned paint - maybe Polly-Scale Oily Black thinned with isopropyl alcohol for example. What I remember seeing as a kid was that these had almost black grills - probably because they had a few years on them at that point. My dad used to mix a close B&O gray by using two parts Floquil Reefer White and one part Floquil Reefer Gray.
I just recently received my A-B set of Sharks and I must say they run pretty good. I also got the MT 1133 and 1134 to convert the couplers but several have said that they are a pain to put in. Any helpful suggestions to make the conversion go a little easier?
I think he is refering to this page: http://www.trainworld.com/2007_n_scale.htm I looked all over thier site and the only price I found was: $74.99
I think this is my second post in this forum. I want to find out about swapping with someone: my D&H Shark shells/sideframes for the same in Pennsy. Does this forum allow swap transactions, or is there some other place I should post? I am not on eBay, so that's out... Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer, -John
I finally got mine decoderized and bodymounted MTL couplers. Many thanks to Nelson for his DCC procedure! I have posted how to add the couplers and my variations to the DCC install here in the How-to Forum: http://z11.invisionfree.com/N_Scale_Talk/index.php?showtopic=278
Actually they are up in the Upper Peninsula in Escanaba under lock and key, due to a someone stealing the build plate off of them. They have been up that way since the 80's when Michigan Northern burned out a traction motor in one them on a Wye while turning the snow-plow. MIGN leased them for 100 bucks a day and when they burned a traction motor, the owner got ticked off and called them back.
I have heard that from more than one person, interesting. I actually spent some time in Escanaba searching for them in the mid 1990's. Jim
