Hello all. I'm looking for one particular N scale car. It's an older Con-Cor i believe, one of thier orange reefers. On the side it has Reefer Express. Does anyone happen to have one they'd like to part with. My wife always wanted that car, and of course last time i saw it, i said, well, we'll get it next time. Well, there never was a next time, and i've never seen the car again.

Well, that's the style of the car, but the side of the car actually says "reefer express" I have a couple of the standard PFE cars. The car i'm looking for was orange with i think black lettering. It's been at least 8 yrs or so since i last saw one.

    Reefer Express??

Ken, are you positive about the words "Reefer Express"? "Reefer" is slang for a refrigerator car, but it is also slang for a marijuana cigarette. There were never any real refrigerator cars with the words "Reefer Express" on them. The three most common names including the word "Express" were Pacific Fruit Express, Railway Express Agency, and Fruit Growers Express. PFE cars were orange, REA green, and FGE yellow.

It is possible someone, not Con-Cor, ran a special run of a car marked "Reefer Express" as a play on words. Do you recall any logo on the car? There have been a number of fictitious cars run using old fruit and vegetable box labels as well, which often have generic names like "Growers Express".

Can you be more specific? :cat:

It was most definitly reefer express. Unfortunatly i can't say anything else. And yes, i am well aware of what the 2 meanings of that term might be. My wife thought it would be a great joke. They were quite common, and more than just a small run. I used to see them all over at the various shows up here in canada. But, as i said, nothing now.

    Ken,

Since the lettering is black, you could do your own lettering with a laser printer on clear decal paper-you could even number it for the "C&C(Cheech & Chong) Railroad".

Paint up a car in reefer orange, decal it, and you are set.

Yeah, i was thinking customising one. It's my wife you see, she thought it would be funny on the layout, with a big pot leaf on it, reefer express beside it etc. Of course, this comes from the same person who likes to pose the cars and trucks on the layout in major accident scenes when i'm not at home. You know, the kind of accident where you tractor trailer turned monster truck is parked ontop of a car, etc.

    Ken,

Yes, I know the type. I had a buddy in Delaware who had a bar on his layout, and in front of it there was a drunk passed out on the sidewalk.
