Ok, so yesterday while switching at Willbridge yard in Portland (did I mention I was forced to Vancouver) I saw a freshly painted GP50 #312? but it was labeled as a GP25. What is differant about this engine from a regular GP50, visually it still looks same. Kevin
Kevin it was a BNSF? the roster seems to go 100 to 162 GP60M's and them starts agin at 325 to 347 GP60B's. This might be something new. Will have to investigate some.
I dunno what a GP25 is, but I had seen a rebuilt GP50 in 2000, in Minot, ND, the side sill called it a GP53L. Maybe de-rated from 3500 to 3000 horsepower? Maybe the GP25 is a de-turbocharged GP50...
A GP25 is a derated GP50 for 2500 horsepower. Most of these will be for remote control use. Here is an article: http://www.newslinkinc.com/Pubs/INTB/INTB0404.pdf
Excellent! Thanks for the info! If I remember, GP50's were designed to give 3500 HP, and later de-rated to 3000. Now being de-rated agian. Interesting!
