When GEVOz first hit the rails on UP, they looked like this: (my photo) Now, thanks to GREAT shots by Keith Schmidt, we see this: Take a closer look at the wings--They didn't just now start to run the yellow thru the radiator wings, did they?
An evolution of the paint scheme? Great catch hemi, doubt I would have noticed had you not pointed it out.
Those are two different units, a GE Gevo and an EMD SD 70 ACE (middle pickture) so I would expect the paint to be different for the different sizes and features.
Dave, I know about the ACez, but the GEVOz have a slight difference in the way the radiator wings are painted. I dunno why I noticed, but I checked my pics, and saw the differences.
They did this sort of thing with some of the Dash 9's that have been repainted over the years, The yellow runs a little higher on some. Different paint shop maybe?
Yes, they do have a new paint scheme. Union Pacific started to apply it a couple months ago. They are becoming very common now. Also if you look closely, you will notice that the worlds "Building America" have been moved. On the conductor's side of the locomotive, it is now on the side of the inverter cabinet. On the engineer's side of the locomotive, it is now right behind the cab. Please note that this is only on the ES44AC's...not the SD70ACe's. Sean
Thanks, Sean! I am about 600 miles from the nearest UP mainline, so I don't know these things. I uses to railfan the UP a lot, in various locations, and never before saw that. Thanks for pointing out the moved 'Building America' logos, too!
They moved the Building America, does anyone know if the flag on the side has gotten a bit smaller too? It seems to me that it has.
I think if anything, the flag has gotten larger, but I'm not sure. The shield and "Building America" have been moved, so that gives them more room. Sean
Are we discussing the yellow now on the radiators? Wouldn't that be the new safety ruling that the most outboard surface must have the yellow saftey reflective striping?
