    Paul;

Great idea. Don't forget to order a winterization hatch, they look better with them, IMHO. Also, the EAGLE had an article, some years back, on making a low hood on an Athearn HO GP-7/9. The next issue they took the number boards from the first unit and put them just below the number boards of the high hood. This was for the crew to look out of. Just some ideas.

Can't wait to see the finished produst.

Thanks Mop I have ordered a winterization hatch.

Does anybody know if MoPac ever operated a GP7 with Dynamic brakes?

Don't tell me. The GP7 had dynamic brakes?

I just went through some MoPac pictures and I didn't see any GP7s with D/B.

No the undec you sent me is non dynamic the UP is Dynamic and I was considering painting it. Is that a custom paint by you or did you jusdt modify the unit?

I think it was un-numbered. In those times, that also meant un-lettered, too. So, just the lettering and numbers; not the painting.

I once did remove the D/B by filing them off of a GP7. It takes a little time, but it does work. My SSW GP7 shown here had the D/B removed.

    Paul:

Far as I remember, the only DB units the MoPac had were the SD40-2c's for pool service. The philosophy was "we don't do mountains, so what do we need them for!"

well the detail parts have finally arrived so my first project is not the low nose GP7 but a high nose GP9. I purchased the undec model from Flash.

Here is a pic of the prototype I will try and follow although I'm not too sure about the spark arrestors.

Here is a photo of the undec model, today I'm hoping to add the horns, sunshades and mu hoses etc.

Here is the model ready for painting, thanks to Flash he showed me via email and yahoo how to make some spark arrestors with some styrene. Now it's off to the layout room to paint the model.

Nice on those spark arestors. :thumbs_up:I will try to post the urls that show how spark arrestors work. It is interesting if not exactly applicable to the modeling.

    Styrene Spark Arrestor

I made spark arrestors from styrene, too. I cut off the exhaust stack and left the base plate. I put a small styrene square in the center and then glued the "wings" to the outside. I cut the wing parts to have the profile shown in a photograph. These are 18-20 scale inches high.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info and close-up photo on making the spark arrestors. Such a simple detail, yet are really needed to say MOPAC geep.

I have just finished the GP9 and I'm quite pleased how it turned out other than a few imperfections thanks to your truelly.

thanks to Flash with the help of his Tex Mex locomotive I was able to make some spark arrestors and it really made a difference.

Here are some images of the finished loco along with a UP GP7 I purchased from Flash

While reading through all the pages of the "Show us your MoPacs" thread I came across these Spark Arrestors made by Howard Tadlock, they are excellent.

Definately better than mine maybe I'll have a go at these for my next project provided i can find the gauze.

Great looking engine, Colonel. I was surprised to hear you say this was your first blue jeep; I thought you had some.

Also, I will look at the MoPac thread. Howard Tadlock's work is above my level right now. He also know what they should look like; that's a big help.

Well once I finish the next GP9 and low nose GP7 I will have 3 geeps, I'd also like to do a GP35 but not sure if there is a model available for that?

Also a GP50 but ill wait until a new model is released not the early kato

Colonel, the GP9 looks great! The GP-7 low nose will be fun. Not exactly like what you are doing but close, here is two of three Paducah's I'm doing for a friend in Bloomington.

Because these were Paducah's the chop nose was a shop job, not the sloped EMD conversion kit. If the Mopac's had the EMD nose, this will be an easy project and you won't have to spend as much time as I did cutting and filling. Since this photo was taken I have updated the units to include the Life-Like GP-18 long hood and the cab from a LL GP20, nose was cut from a high hood Atlas. I'll have to post a newer photo.

    Keep us posted.
