Not sure if this should be here or in general discussion.

My father bought a book from Kalmbach in the 80s that had I think 4 different layout ideas. The 2 that I remember vividly is a dogbone with added yard and a really super small squarish N-scale layout with the control panel built intoa mountain that the railroad went through. While at my parents, I went looking for this book as there were ideas there which I've always been enamored of, but I couldn't find it.

The only other thing I remember is that the dogbone layout featured a blue and yellow Warbonnet Santa Fe GP20.
we bought a couple different books on layout planning back then and I have poured over them all, but this one always stood out and I want to use it, but I can't remember the title. Does any of this ring a bell?

The section with the Dogbone started with a picture of a boy and his father opening up a trainset at Christmas.

    Maybe...

I'm sure youve already checked Kalmbach's site but here's the link to their Kalmbach catalog. I know how tough it can be trying to remember something from a pile of information long ago digested. I did some digging around the only thing I could find with a control pannel in a mountain is HO. Does this book cover look familiar??

The name sounds familiar, but not the cover. Course, it's possible more recent additions updated that.

    Thanks

Maybe the dogbone with the yard attached was the Marquette and Independence "project" layout from Dec 1975 and Feb 1976. It could be one of the layouts in this softcover from Kalmbach:

    Hope this info was helpful!

I have the pages from the Marquette and independance. It was, and still is, one of my favorite project layouts. I almost built it in N scale on a doorpanel.
