Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad had a derailment this morning at Roseburg Forest Products rail yard in Dillard just South of Winston. According to local news reports in the area a number of cars tipped over and took out a few power poles, droped a powerline across the roadway and also clipped some communication poles along the right of way.

No one was reported injured in the derailment and Old Highway 99 has been closed until they can clear the site.

Hopefully this is going to get train traffic back and running quickly, and doesn't cost a fortune for CORP..

:eek:mg: Sounds like perhaps a cut was being shoved, and something went wrong?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the 3rd derailment this year?

This is the fourth big derailment for CORP this year. On or around March 23rd CORP had a derailment in Downtown Roseburg. On or around April 4th a derailment near Drain sends longs onto the Highway. On or around June 5th 16 Log Cars gets derailed near Oakland. And yesterday at RFP in Dillard.

Combined with the tunnel fire, this has got to be causing them a world of hurt. Maybe it's time to put some investment in that old SP trackage.

Dang! I was up in Roseburg yesterday (Thursday) and opted for to skip the Dillard Detour in favor of Cow Creek Canyon (I should have done both, right?)

However, on the drive between Riddle and Glendale, Oregon, there was a lot of welded rail awaiting installation. CORP is certainly addressing the bad rail problem.

Another hurt is lumber loadings are down this year and the operating ratio (cost vs. revenue) is up.
